Oh i think you are fine! I don't get how it looked "feminine" before or how it looks "industrial" now--I think you are definitely reading into it too much and maybe having a ring freak-out (no worries, i had one, too, it passes, I promise!). I actually think it looked a little weird jutting out of its halo SO much in the before photo (no offensive to anyone) because it REALLY sticks out! And if it snags? what a pain. I always thought halos should be flush to the center stone so i really like your after better
I REALLY like how it came out - I think the setting was too high before and took away from the overall setting - not to mention that it will constantly be getting caught on stuff and knocking it into things could cause the stone to come loose! I don't think you have anything to worry about - it's a gorgeous ring.
It think that the new way the stone is set with the halo is much more mature, looks classier, and more valuable. I think that by originally having the stone set so high was a setting that was almost trying to make the stone too pronounced above the halo and was a little more costume jewelery looking.
I think you made a good choice, this small alteration made the ring look more timeeless, rather than more of the "in" thing. You should be confident wearing this new one.
I am with trailmix- I could barely tell the difference! It is a beautiful ring, and I think it's probably smart of you to lower your center diamond. I have a high-set diamond and a lot of times I wish it was lower to my hand because I catch/bang it on EVERYTHING.
The only difference I'm seeing is that the center stone is now sitting lower, which I think is much more practical. Now you won't get it caught on things. I think it looks beautiful!
Wow! Thanks so much guys! The more I wear it, the more I'm starting to fall back in love with it. Even before when I thought I didn't like it so much, I somehow loved it.... I know hat sounds crazy, but I guess it's like one of you Bees said, I am just going to have to get use to the new look of the ring. Thanks again guys. Oh! Howard did notice he change!
Yup, add me to the "after" thumbs up! I think your family just thinks it's such a huge change because you were so worried about it. Know how if a woman gets her hair chopped off, dyed a totally different color or permed, sometimes it's a bit of a shock change.....please don't fret, it looks beautiful!!!
I definitely like the lower setting better! Much more practical & pretty!! :)
May I ask why you didn't tell your FI you were getting it altered? I know my FI wouldn't care if I asked to change my ring, but he would care if I did it without telling him...
First of all it's gorgeous either way!!! But I liked how it stuck out...And I also like that it's flatter...either way for me...But one thing I dont' like are the prongs....they are so big!!
I have a high ring, and it is always getting knocked a little..But I do love it. I cant change it due to the design, its part of a bridal set. I think you made a great choice! and the ring looks fabulous!
I think it looks so much better in the "after" pics-- much more feminine and delicate and elegant. Nice work!
Much better altered! the diamond was sticking out a bit far before.
Thanks Guys,
ejs4ya- I agree, I am having a ring FREAK OUT! You are probably right about reading too much into it but I do that about EVERYTHING! I seriously tiresome sometimes. lol!
Recessionista B- I didn't tell Howard because I didn't want him to think for one minute that I didn't like his gift to me. I just didn't feel that it was worth making him feel like there was something wrong with it. I don't know, I guess what 'm trying to say is, I wanted him to stay proud of everything from the time he picked the ring up, and to the time that he gave it to me. I didn't want there to be any gray areas. But anyway, I'm loving the new look more and more and I boast about his efforts daily so he's good. I probably should have told him but I didn't see any reason to do so. I know he would have giving me his blessings to do whatever I wanted to do with the ring as long as I took it back to where it was purchased in order to not void the lifetime warranty. I don't know, I just didn't tell him.
Becoming Mrs W- I'm not feeling the prongs when looking at it from the side either. I mean it's not like I have a 5 carat diamond that needs securing! lol! Either way though, I think it looks a million times better from the sides than it did before alterations. It's growing on me!
I know this is a minor issue for everyone except for myself, but I just want to say, thanks guys for jumping in with your opinions. I never thought, I would feel more at ease by hearing what others have to say! The freaking out has subsided! lol! Now on to the next dilemma!
I also prefer this so much more AFTER your alterations! I think the original setting was way too high. I can understand how it would have been uncomfortable! You made the right choice!
This is actually what i want when i upgrade it. Mine is just solitar!
I think it looks nicer afterwards too. The original ring looks like two different styles combined, where as now that its been altered it looks more like one halo ring.
