So after almost a year of debating I finally took my ring to get sizing balls put in. I won’t get it back until Feb 29th 🙁 but in the meantime I went and bought myself a stand in ring so I wouldnt keep giving myself a heart attack thinking I lost my ring. They are going to redip and make it pretty for me when I get it back so thats a yay!
Here is my stand in:
What do you/ would you do if you had to be away from your ring?

This is why I have been “meaning to” get my ring appraised for a few months!!! I don’t know what to do while the ring is gone. I am tempted to wait until after we are married and then I’ll have a band to wear, but I don’t want to wait until August for an appraisal.

I just had to get mine sized down almost a full size, it got way to big for me as i have lost some weight! I was so sad to be away from it 🙁 but i got it back the next day, they were super fast and wonderful and I am so happy I had it done 🙂

Oh whew, I thought you meant forever! Where did you get your stand-in?

@CEtoSAHM: they are little gold beads that are put on the inside of the ring to make it smaller/ not turn. I wanted them instead of sizing because they can be removed if needed.
@Juliepants: I got it at JCPenny. It was only $40 and it looks great.

@EverAfterBegins: why is it taking so long? THey should be able to put the sizing beads/balls inside your ring in 15 minutes, right in front of you. (this is per 2 different jewelers that I called –Michael C Fina (where we bought the ring) and ID Jewelry in NYC).

@takemyhand: Why do you need to send your ring away to get it appraised? A jeweler should be able to do that for you!

10 days?! Did they give you an explanation?
I took mine to a jeweler who did it in like 20 minutes…

You should never send a diamond away to get appraised! A legit appraiser will do it right in front of you and point out everything they’re looking at so that you know your diamond!!!!
When I got mine done, he showed me a small flaw in the cut that I can identify before and after I get it cleaned or worked on, so that I never need to worry about having it swapped out.

Sometimes if it is a designer ring, the jeweler will send it to the designer to resize the ring since it is that designers setting and it would be covered under the designers sizing/care plan, but I have never heard of this when you are just putting sizing beads inside the ring. Honestly, i wouldn’t panic it’s too late now anyway just make sure when you get it back to look at it under the loupe and if it is GIA certified, verify the inclusions to that on the cert or even better if it is laser inscribed just ask to see the inscription.

@mandypop: I don’t know if hers came froma chain store or not, but chain stores hire out work done on jewelery to local jewelers so that’s why they always tell you something that a local jeweler can do in 10 minutes will take 2 weeks. I got my e-ring from Kay’s but my band from a local jewelery store and Kay takes 2 weeks to re-dip or size my rings and if I go to the store I bought my band from it only takes them like an hour. So anywho, maybe that’s why it is going to take her so long?

Aww, I know how you feel……..
My ring is away for the week being re-set and im missing it soo much! 🙁
Im wearing my promise ring in it’s place until I get it back.

Don’t worry about sending it away; that is very common when you buy your ring from a big store. Mine is from Peoples (Canadian Zales) and you have to send your ring off for about a week to get sized, rhodium plated etc.

Well, I lost first one diamond on my ring. I had to leave it at the jewellers for two weeks appr. When I got it back the stone was not set properly and was tilted. We had to leave it there again for another appr 2 weeks. I was all without a ring, but then my Fiance actually let me use my wedding and eternity band. So, now I wear them all together. :)At one point I thought of getting a new ring, but I convinced my Fiance that no, I don’t wanna. I am so attached to my rings now!
