I hear ya! I am also growing my hair for the wedding. I actually still go for trims and have my stylist razor cut the edges, which takes that bulky feeling out of long hair. Perhaps you could do this too? It made me feel a lot better!
Maybe you could be a short hair bride instead? I like having long hair and that's how I wanted it at my wedding so I wouldn't have cut it just for the wedding. So I don't understand why girls grow their hair out when they hate having long hair just for the wedding. You should look like yourself, a beautiful bride with short or long hair.
I agree with you! I do want long hair for my wedding and I'm trying to grow it out, but it's such a bother and I really don't love it. However, once you get past the point where it flips out all the time and looks funky it's ok...I find it a bit hard to manage but at least it isn't doing weird stuff.
I may just chop it and be a short haired bride, but I'd rather err on the side of having it long and deciding to go short, than having it short and deciding to go long!
I guess I just feel like having longer hair gives you a lot more options for hairstyles. Really, once your hair gets shorter than your shoulders, like a bob, your options become much more limited. Since I don't know what the heck I want to do with my hair yet, I am going to keep my options open!
Im growing my out currently and its driving me CRAZY! Its in that grown out layers so you cant style it if your life depended on it stage. its very frusturating! Im going for a trim tomorrow and its taking all my energy not to scream CHOP IT OFF!
I had long hair my entire life until about a year ago and I started cutting it chin length. It looks so much better with my type of hair, but I know I'll be really disappointed if I can't have an updo for my wedding. I feel your pain!
I think unless you are dying for a specific hair style, you should cut it like others suggest. What sort of hairdo are you thinking of for the day?
I've been thinking of just doing curls and pinning it back from my face with flowery hair pins. Something pretty simple. I'm also opting for no veil. Plus I'm having an outdoor wedding by a lake, and am aiming for a softer, more relaxed hairdo.
My hair is at that really awkward stage, and especially in winter where I'm wearing vests and sweaters all the time, it just flips out everywhere. And, I ALWAYS get the curl where I tucked it behind my ear, which never leaves until I shower. Plus, despite taking prenatals, eating healthy, and getting lots of nutrients, it's growing so slow!
My FSIL is doing my hair (she's an amazing stylist) and we just had a trial last weekend. My hair is very curly and I usually keep it pretty short. I've been growing it out for over a year, thinking I needed a ton of hair to accomplish the style I want. As of now it's just past my shoulders when it's straight. Well, when FSIL and I played over the weekend she told me that I had MORE than enough hair to work with! She actually said I could cut off an inch and I'd still have plenty. She told me that she usually tells brides that they really don't have to grow out their hair and that it becomes harder to work with the longer it is. So you might have the perfect amount for what you want to do and not even know it. Is there any way you can do a trial to see if this is the case?
Mine's at a length where it's bothering me too, although I'm thinking the turtlenecks, scarves, big warm coats are adding to the problem. If my hair isn't perfectly dry when I get bundle up to leave the gym in the morning, by the time I get to work it looks like I haven't done a thing to it. Right now my hair is just past my shoulders and I don't plan on growing it out much longer.
I'm growing my hair out too! I wasn't intentionally doing it for the wedding, I just go through phases, where I chop it off, then grow it out for a year or so. I really can't wait till after the wedding and I get to chop it all off!
i just posted in another thread about short hair...i loved my hair long and it usually takes FOREVER for it to grow...but I was getting so sick and tired of it and finally decided to chop it off on halloween.
I decided on a short hairstyle for the wedding before I chopped it though...here's the pic:

It's such a drag...I chopped 14 inches off of mine in March, up to my chin. Even though it's fun to have a short, fun cut - it's just not me, and I rarely so I not have long hair. So I want to have long hair at the wedding, so it's not like "what's with the short hair?" when I look back at pics. And not only am I growing my hair out - I'm growing bangs out too. Both are at about the worst possible spot right now...the long part of my hair is doing the flip thing, and my bangs aren't long enough to brush to the side, but are too long to wear as real "bangs".
WORD! Hahaha! I know it's cool to be a short-haired bride and all, but long hair just looks more "bridal" to me and I knew I always wanted it when I got married. That being said, I've come close to chopping it off myself as of late!
I've heard prenatal vitamins can help it grow out quicker, if you're just tired of that 'in between' stage (That's where I am - growing out a pixie into a bob, which will be long for me), and I can personally attest that scalp massages DO help it grow faster. Every morning before the shower, every evening before bed.

I have had short hair for the last 2 years. It was long, but I stupidly permed it, and the woman doing it used rollers that were too small, and I hated it. I love my hair short and feel like I look so much better with short hair.
But, like so many others, I am growing out my hair for the wedding. I convince myself every day after I shower not to chop it all off, although I wish I could. ugh!
Mrs Cloud's post really makes me wish I had short hair and wasn't waiting until after the wedding to chop it.
