I have been planning this wedding for 2 years now, but last Oct i found out i was pregnant! yay :) this delayed my gown shopping. My son was born May 11 of this year, so naturally i had to wait several weeks to shop, considering the weight loss. I nurse my son full-time so the weight has continuasly fallen off (NOT complaining :). In august i went gown shopping bc i was 20 lbs less finally, i bought the 3rd dress i tried on in the first store. It was on clearence, therefore not returnable. when i went back a week later to pick it up and bring it back home with me (i was in Rhode Island which is where my wedding is, but live in NC) i had already lost more weight, so alterations were inevitable.

Once back in NC i brought it to a seamstress, after a month and being brought in nearly 4 whole dress sizes, I now HATE the dress on me!

there is no question the dress is beautiful, but its just not me, not my style. it looked nice when i was a bit heavier but now it just exsentuates my bad areas rather than flattering my good ones.

I have no budget for a new gown, for the fact that our wedding has been quite pricey and im a stay at home mom with a 5 month old infant. even worse, my wedding is Dec 4th. its now Nov 4th!

ive been looking at gowns in the $200 range, not sure if a pretty gown will come at that price which requires no alterations!

my mother even agrees that the gown is not me! ive even shown the Mr. and he agrees he would have NEVER thought id pick the one i did. im in such a dilema and just have to vent.

Has anyone come across this issue? share your story with me!

Look at nordstrom and macy's and dillards.  Those likely would need little alteration.  and you can always sell the one you don't wear to have a little extra $$

depending on what dress style you are looking for, you may be able to find something in your budget that needs little alteration. These dresses are at JCPenny for $99.99, $99.99, and $89.99 respectively.

Do you have any pics of yourself in the dress?  Maybe it is in fact gorgeous on you!  Or can still be saved somehow!

I would have to agree and suggest David's. They actually have pretty things in a lower price range.... Good luck! I wish we could see your dress on you so we can give you some yay or nay support...

i sold my extra dress to someone on ebay in your same position - i overnighted it and thankfully she LOVED it.  Her mother sent me so many pix of her in it, they were overjoyed.  You can find another dress on ebay, davids, jcrew, etc, that won't break the bank.  Then sell both - you can make some $ back.  Good luck!

We are all helpful bees.  What are you looking for??  (mermaid, strapless, etc.)  Fabric preferences?  Bridal Size?  Color?  (ivory, white) If you get 1,000 bees searching the internet for you believe me we can find you a dress you love.

Jim Helm Occasions the bridesmaids line has beautiful dresses of all styles for less than $200.  You can order the dresses in white, ivory, etc.   I would totally wear one if I had a budget crunch.

Is there a way for a talented seamstress to work with the current dress and fabric into a design you like?

I would look on Ebay, oncewed, or preownedweddingdresses for another gown that you can afford and will feel beautiful in. Also, David's Bridal always has really pretty gowns for around $100.

Good luck finding a new dress and CONGRATS on your baby & wedding :)

You are alll soooooo amazing! i dont have any pics with me in it, but i do have some of it hanging.

im looking for something simple, ivory, mermaid'ish?, doesnt have to be strapless  & its a winter wedding so something of a thicker material than chiffon. Im wider in the bust and hips than in the waist so an empire waist would prob look best. def a small train. i dont know why i bought one with such a long train, its just not me.

thank you for all your help and input!! so amazing!

    xo

Also, check your local craigslist.  Sometimes there's some crazy ones to weed though (1980's anyone?) but I've gotten a few dresses of CL for under $100 that are gorgeous!  (I'm a photog so I use them to have fun) :-)
