@nearly-mrs-R: I assume you signed some sort of contract? What did it say? If you didn’t sign one I would get your money back and run!! No contract means it’s not a vendor I would ever want to work with.

@nearly-mrs-R:  Yikes! Did you go down to the venue? Did you get your money back? I would be nervous as heck without a contract.

@nearly-mrs-R:  If I could get my cash back from our venue I would. I love the way it looks but I dislike everyone who works there.

Good luck!

Just for future reference, check to see how many people your venue can hold before giving a deposit. Also, once you give your deposit and sign a contract, most times you can’t get it back. just make sure you realize this in the future!

Even if it is not labled as non-refundable, I think you will have a tough time getting it back.

The point of the deposit, is to protect both the venue and you.  The venue can’t book someone else in your time slot, and you can’t hold the slot, and cost them other people booking that day.

The venue may have turned away other business for that day, and now may not be able to re-book.

The fact that your vision changed, or your family meddled isn’t the venue’s problem.

I really don’t think you can persue legal action.  You can ask nicely, but they can also refuse to refund you the deposit.

@nearly-mrs-R:  But if there is so much time why did you book so early?  Clearly it is because you were worried it would fill up, so other brides may have already inquired about your date, and been turned away to another vendor.

Sure they may get someone to fill your slot, but not without extra work on their end.  That is why they may not refund your deposit to recoup the costs they are out.  And maybe no other bride ever comes forward.

I can understand why they may not want you to now take 1/2 a day (at presumably half the money) keeping them from renting out that space at full price for a full day.
