I’m not a fan of them either.  But after having a colposcopy (including cervical biopsy) last year, I’d rather have a Pap any day.

I don’t know anyone who enjoys Pap tests, and think it would be kind of freaky if they did.

@MsGolightly:  I used to hate them, but realized it was my doctor. I found a new one and she makes them not nearly as awkard or uncomfortable.

Just be glad you only have to go once a year!  I have to go every 3-6 months.  I really shouldn’t be allowed to go alone, because I am forever making nervous/awkward comments to my doctor about how she didn’t even buy me dinner first.  Yikes!  Since that particular occasion,  I’ve learned to talk about ANYTHING else instead, like the weather,  my fiance’s job,  the doctor’s kids,  ANYTHING!  Lol

@Britt214:  I agree.

I remember for a while I just went to Planned Parenthood for my annuals and hated them. I then got great insurance and found an amazing doctor and while a PAP still isn’t the most fun I have every year, its not terrible.

@strawbabies:  Agree 100%. I’ve had to have 2 colposcopies with biopsies, and another is coming up a month before my wedding. I wish not liking PAPs was the extent of my gynecological concerns… OP, try this: instead of dreading the PAP, look forward to getting a clean bill of health for the foreseeable future. I would love to have that right now.

Also, your doc might be part of the problem. I go to Planned Parenthood, not because I can’t afford anywhere “better”, but because they have the absolutely best bedside manner I’ve ever encountered. I’ve never felt uncomfortable with the nurse practitioners there, and I’m actually always pleasantly surprised by the quality of care there. Something to consider…

@Hippos:  Just saw your post right after I posted mine. Funny how that works… I guess not all Planned Parenthoods are great, but the two I’ve visited are. Maybe it has to do with the area or the subdivision. Mine is Planned Parenthood of MN/ND/SD, and I know they have a separate banch off the main website, so maybe there are significant regional differences.

I second @strawbabies:  Colposcopys are awful…and the aftermath is even worse!

I have a pain disorder than requires me to go in ever 3-5 months. There for a while I was in every 2 weeks because I had a major surgery to repair damaged tissue “down there”. After that, while it’s still not something I ENJOY, I realized these doctors really do not think twice about seeing your big open vageeg, so whatever.

@MsGolightly:  Oh, god, I hate the word “panties”.  It’s just…eew.  The nurses at my ob/gyn’s office say something like, “Everything off, and put this gown on.”

@MsGolightly:  I had my annual one last week and I get ya – I hate them too! They are way better though than the 4 colposcopies and biopsies I have had though when they found abnormalities each time :-(. This one came back with no abnormalities though so I don’t have to go through that again, at least for the next year, woo!
