Sooo....I'm terrible at surprises. For as long as I can remember I've snooped at Christmas and my birthday.  It takes extreme strength for me not to snoop. My SO knows this and often buys my presents at the last minutes just so that he can leave them in the car over night, that way I can't ransack the apartment looking for them.

That's the background. About six months ago SO and I went to look at rings.  I found the one that I REALLY wanted.  SO put it on layaway. He didn't know I knew... but I found the receipt a week or two later. He left it in an open place where I clean.. silly boy. I asked questions left and right, he slowly admitted a ring was on layaway but wouldn't tell me where.

Fastforward to last night. He was in the bedroom as I was in the living room watching the Bachelor aftershow. He diligently sat in the living room during the entire show but decided he had enough for the aftershow. When I was ready to go to bed I went into the bedroom where he was still awake.  His cellphone was on the nightstand (which is on my side of the bed).  When he gets a text message while the screen is locked the message shows up on the bottom of the sceen with who it's from and shows the begining of the message.

I said "hey babe, you got a message from your mom."  He perks up and gets all defensive almost, saying "what really, are you sure?!"  So I read it to him (this happens all the time so I didn't think anything of it until he started acting crazy.) The text said "Well I wish you the best with that :) :)"  (His mom loves smilies)

He then starts telling me not to open the full message or anything and I'm not allowed to see it.  Normally he'd just have me respond since he's lazy.  So I ask why and he says it's because it's about me and a surprise.

So now I desperately wnat to know what it is!!!  My birthday is tomorrow so it could be about that.. but I doubt that it is. I know he's not sending me flowers at work (becuase I took the day off), and we don't have big plans.  He said he'd take me to dinner, but it couldn't be too expensive.  I asked if I could go to my favorite place which isn't expensive but we don't go there a lot. He said he'd check the bank account, I Really don't think it's a birthday surprise.

So now I"m just wondering if it has to do with the engagement. HIs parents are always asking about it. I was under the impression it'd be like next fall sometime, it's probably not that and I'm probably getting my hopes up, but I just had to post it here!  (I told people at work who told me to stop freaking out and let him do his thing.  They said I was goingto ruin it all. I'm trying to be patient but I'm terrible at it!)

I'm right with you!  I am not a fan of surprises at all.  Especially if I know one is coming!  The anticipation just drives me nuts.  Hang in there, either way, at least you know something fun is coming!

Awww.. Well, here's my advice. Be excited, but don't be TOO excited (about the possibility of an engagement tomorrow) JUST in case it's not that. I'm sure whatever it is, it will be great! Have fun and happy birthday!

it definately sounds like it could be an engagement to me, but clearly you know better haha. i thought my bf was going to propose because he had a surprise as well, that was 'kinda a gift' in his words. it was perfume, and i was let down :P

I'm POSITIVE that I'm not getting engaged tomorrow haha.

I'm just wondering about the coming months. I did mention the other day that I'd love to get engaged at the George Strait concert... which is a little over a month.
I really don't think he'd be able to pay off the ring in that time though.

Who knows...I'm just so curious.  Thanks for the birthday wishes :)

(If only people in my life would stop being so demanding about my birthday.)

@tea- I feel the EXACT same way.  I even told SO last night that I wish people would stop telling me they have surprises.  Then I want to beg and snoop. If I don't know it's coming it's fine, but everyone always tells me!  (or in this case I just happened to walk in when his mom texted)

I had a real surprize birthday party when I was 15, that I knew nothing about, and it's still one of the most fun memories of my life. I am excited for your surprize!

@Helstrong...I am a snooper (word?) all the way...I always knew what i was getting for christmas (so did my twin bro we snooped together) and its just kind of in my nature to look around at stuff that is sitting out. With that said...Teddy knows that I know his email password (sometimes he has me look things up at home since he cant from work) so recently he changed that...and will not leave me alone in his room afraid I might "snoop". My bday is also coming up next saturday and I know he has something planned but I dont know what!

@Mrs.DG I can never be surprised either...something in their voice or sequence of conversation always alerts me as to whats going on...I pick up on people acting weird really fast haha.

@Ms. Teddy-  Sounds like he has something up his sleeve :)  I'm the same way, know bank passwords, email passwords... but he hasn't changed any. I don't get in them unless he asks..... I'm sure if I looked in either of those I could find valuable information haha.

Can't wait to see what your surprise is!!

Well my birthday is over, no surprise from the boy.  I knew that it wasn't going to happen yesterday though. So now I'm just wondering about next month haha. We'll see ;)

@thisismeAXid- I'm trying!!  I haven't really been snooping regarding the ring... just happened to come upon things he's left out!

Now you'll have to wait until next month... it's my next "maybe it's then" thought ;)
