Yiiikes that lady has clearly never planned a wedding!! It is possible to go to a 3rd post office? Or even better the central processing one for your state/county/area, they may be a little more efficient there. There is always zazzle, but I know its ridic expensive. Good luck!
haha i know how you feel, my FMIL works for the PO and I went to get them weighed before showing them to her and they were giving me these different prices but finally at the end because my invite was a different shape, it cost me $1.05 to mail them
OMG! I can't believe the post office person gave you that much sass -- I would take them to a post office that will be nicer to you -- you don't need the added hassle, for sure!
Oh my goodness, you poor thing! I cannot STAND postal workers!!! Sorry to all of those who are helpful postal workers...this rant isn't directed at you!
I had such an issue with my invitations too! They weighed them 3 different times with 3 different weights and almost told me that my shape was odd even after my invitation place assured me that they were the correct size. I was so frustrated. And for her to take apart your invitation right then and there...who the heck do you think you are lady?? Quit taking apart mail that I'm sending! I'm angry for you!
I'm so sorry that you had to deal with that...sometimes people can be so rude!
OOOOH! How frustrating! That woman would have gotten a piece of my mind!
So sorry you had to deal with this! Invites are hard enough to get out without problems with the post office!
Oh, I feel your pain!! I've had some serious issues with the USPS lately. Man, do they mess up a lot. No need for me to go into the details, but I just wanted to let you know you're not alone in your frustration!! Just scream and let it out!!! Ahhh!!!!
Did you end up combining multiple stamps? That can have quite a cool look, even if unintended!
I used air stamps, and paid more than I needed to but got the pretty purple ones. They weren't wedding related but they worked for me:
Ah, thanks for the sympathy. I felt like a nutcase in there and everyone was thinking bridezilla. But I honestly think this woman is a Kook. Every time i have been in there she mentions to someone how her husband died of a brain tumor....
Anywho. Not sure what to do yet. I don't have my envelopes back from my calligrapher yet so I was just trying to have the stamps ready. I may be going the Zazzle route since I am going to have to spend extra anyway to get it to mail because it needs to be 78 cents
Um...wow. That's totally inappropriate for a postal worker to give you advice on YOUR wedding invitations!
Im sorry I know that is so frustrating but I found myself laughing at how ridiculous the lady was to you! Anyways, zazzle is expensive but they work. My envelopes were $1.19 and I had to do 2 different stamps so I did a zazzle stamp then a regular wedding stamp. You could go to usps.com, they sell .78 stamps or you can combine 2 stamps to equal it.
omg why on earth is a postal employee telling you how you should do your wedding invites? Seriously! The post office has, hands down, the worst customer service anywhere. It's night and day between them and UPS or FedEx - UPS/FedEx employees might not be the brightest bulbs around, but at least they try to be helpful and provide customer service; post office employees won't lift a finger to help you out.
I mean, the post office worker was really trying to dictate how invitations should be done? Lol.I think that's personal, whatever the bride wants ... she gets!
Good luck.
I never ever go to the post office, mainly because ours is this tiny little postal annex that's only open 10-3pm. I love dealing with The UPS Store, which deals with regular mail. If you have one locally, I suggest you go there instead.
oh my gosh, your story nearly gave me hives!! so aggravating!! I can't believe she was so awful... I hope you got the darned things in the mail and out of your hands!
Wow, I don't even know what I would do in a situation like that! How insane!!!
The postage on our wedding invitations is going to be 81 cents. Apparently, there is no Post Office stamp for that, so we ended up ordering personalized ones with a picture of the two of us from Stamps.com. It cost a bit more, but I really did not want to have to put two stamps on every one.
Fortunately, we are sending out only a few wedding invitations, and the rest are reception invitations, which will only be 44 cents. We're using the stamps with two gold rings on them for those. We ordered them from the Post Office in Bridal Veil, OR. Since that Post Office does almost nothing but wedding-related stuff, they are very helpful indeed.
I think it's illegal for her to actually OPEN your envelope and PULL OUT THE CONTENTS!! I would have jumped over the counter and beat her to death with the postage hand canceller. Seriously she just was LAZY. She wanted YOU to remove something so that the invites wouldn't be on the border of 2 oz and 2.1 oz. How horrible! In dealing with people in a service job like this, I usually remind them of their job description: weight my mail, cancel it, and send it. Period. No where in there does it say to open the invite, read it, or make suggestions on how to lighten the load. Sheesh! Fired! Write a note to her supervisor!

Grrrrr! I nearly just got into a brawl with a crazy post office worker.
I took my invites two weeks ago to get weighed. They told me they were 2 oz so the 61 cent cake stamp would be perfect. I wasn't in love with them but figured they were OK. But the post office I went to didn't have them yet. So, they directed me to another one I finally went to today. They weigh my invite and tell me that it is 2.1 oz and they have no stamps for it.
So, I go back to original post office I am planning on mailing them from to have them weighed again. Twice they get 2 oz I aked them to recalibrate they get three different weights but inform me I should go with 78 cent postage. But they don't have any to equal that. Then the women behind the counter start emptying my invitation onto the counter asking me what I can take out.
Do you think I just have things in there for shits and giggles??? I calmly tell them no there is nothing I can take out. She tells me to get rid of my lined inner enevelope that I paid a lot of money to line and have addressed by a calligrapher. Telling me to, "Use them later in life."
I tell her I appreciate her suggestion but that isn't possible. She keeps asking me why. I explain that the inner envelope denotes who is invited and all of the above. She tells me I'm wrong the outter envelope tells them who is invited. Then she asks me why I am being ridiculous and if I want to buy her stamps or not.
AHHHH. I know in the grand scheme of things this isn't a big deal but it was a friggen maddening experience. And everyone in the post office in the line forming behind me was staring at me like I was crazy.
