- Wedding: November 2013
The title says it all really!
We have been engaged since December 2006 and have been putting off the wedding time and time again… You know how it is – money problems, family infighting etc…
FI got seriously ill and had lifesaving surgery 7 weeks ago. When we found out the gravity of the situation and that his odds weren’t good (50/50) our world fell apart and we realised that all that matters is us. Everything else paled into insignificance. So before his surgery, we made a pact that once he was better, we would get married before the year was over.
And here we are! FI has made a miraculous recovery, and now we’re getting the wedding ball rolling!
We’re keeping it nice and simple. We will be having our ceremony in the city at the registry office (aka courthouse), and then throwing a big party back at our home… we plan on getting caterers in. Our guest list is sitting at the incredibly high number of 17 – and the majority of FI’s family won’t know we’re married until the deed is done. (Sadly, some shit went down while he was in surgery and his siblings all revolted against me, saying that I’m a nobody and trying to get me thrown out of the hospital. FI is furious with them and has laid the law down. It’s his decision not to have them at the wedding – he said they don’t respect me or our relationship and he doesn’t want them to ruin our day.)
Our tentative date at this point is November 2. It’ll be late spring here in Australia so it shouldn’t be too hot, fingers crossed. We nixed the idea of a December wedding as my birthday is the week before Christmas, and also the weather gets stinking hot. I will ring the registry office on Monday (yay for rostered days off) to make sure the date is available and book our ceremony.
I am lining up my dream photographer, they have done family portraits for us before, and they have only gotten better since then! I really want great photos of our day, and although I know they will work with us to organise a specialised package (mainly due to budget) I know the photos will be spectacular. The only date they have available is our tentative date, so I’m really hoping it will all fall into place.
Dress wise, I plan on trying on different styles to see what suits me (I’m a big girl) and then I can order a dress overseas for a quick turnaround. I got a recommendation from a colleague who ordered her dress off ebay, had it on her doorstep two weeks later, and was thrilled. The dress is my main concern but I know it will work out.
So I have 16 weeks to plan the wedding – oh, and did I mention we’re moving house in 3 weeks?! I’m feeling a bit insane!
