I’m not really sure but Fiance and I have a mutual friend who found out she was pregnant a month later and she had consumed a couple of beers at our grad party. Nothing happened to her baby and she’s perfectly healthy with no health problems. As long as stops drinking then she shouldn’t have a problem.

No, absolutely not.  It is too early in the pregnanc, the mother and baby do not share a blood supply at 3 weeks

LOL, I actually looked this up because I was feeling rough a few weeks ago and I thought “oh ****, could I be pregnant despite always being so careful?”. I wasn’t, of course. But every website I went to basically said that it can’t hurt the baby before the placenta forma at all, because there’s no way for the alcohol to cross over into the foetus. Even in very early gestation then it doesn’t really matter that much, because the cells are not specific to one organ/function… they are all identical. So if a few cells die then the rest keep on multiplying as usual. The real danger period is between the end of the first trimester and the beginning of the third trimester, when the cells turn into organs with specific functions etc.

Drinking in very early pregnancy is far more likely to cause miscarriage than damage to the baby. I wouldn’t worry… after all, the majority of the population of Europe must have drunk alcohol in very early pregnancy without realising. Also, until the early 1950s then pregnant and breastfeeding women in the UK were advised to drink very weak beer as it was more sterile than water.

…. feel better now? Hope so! 🙂

Drink til its pink is a pretty common TTC phrase…

She should be fine!

To be honest, the NO ALCOHOL Movement only really became a way of life for Moms in the 1980s, prior to that, ya carried on thru pregnancy as you did prior to it (smoking too)

Back when I had my kids, people would ask you… “Are you planning to give up ___” the same way that women here on WBee contemplate if they’ll change their names or not.  It really was sort of a ground-breaking novel idea / choice

Sure there were some folks who had issues… fetal alcohol syndrom which was the one that got all the notariety in the 1980s due to research, and hence the movement… but for the most part, women had healthy babies all thru the 50s, 60s and 70s, when both alcohol and smoking were a way of modern life (actually an “encouraged” lifestyle… that corresponded with “being successful”)

Thankfully, times have changed, and now we all know better… Alcohol, Smoking and Drugs most definitely are detrimental to a baby’s health, growth and development if they are used excessively (some would argue at all) during pregnancy

Hope this helps,

Doctors say alcohol doesn’t get to the baby until around 6 weeks pregnant.

I was in the “drink till it’s pink” club, so I was drinking in moderation up until my BFP (4 weeks pregnant, which is when most women find out they’re pregnant because that’s when you would have a missed period).

I drank on New Years a few years back not knowing I was pregnant. My daughter was/is perfectly healthy, born a week late at 8lbs5oz. I’m sure your friend doesn’t need to worry.

No, it should be fine. With how early it happened, and the fact that she promptly stopped when she found out should cause no harm. I didn’t find out until I was six weeks along and went out for Christmas and New Years and other events beforehand, and my little guy is perfectly healthy.

She will be fine so long as she didn’t have a crazy bender and probably even in that case. I had several drinks on my honeymoon not knowing i was preggers and i was fine. I stopped drinking as soon as i found out. Make sure she starts taking a prenatal vitamin asap!

I don’t think any harm will be caused at that point. I think it’s still a blastocyst at this stage, neural tube etc has not started forming yet so I would tell her not to worry. It’s good that she has stopped immediately though 🙂

She should be ok.  I was 2 months pregnant and didn’t know with my first and I drank a lot of hard liquor one night.  My son is perfect, well behaved, good student, very smart.  Only problem is his eye sight (he’s 10 now) and has to wear glasses but of course his mom is blind as a bat lol.
