I an a mini dachshund that will be 8 months old at the end of this week, he still has his puppy canines with the adult canines growing in front of them. My question is do I need to see a vet about this and have those puppy canines removed? 8 months just seems a little old to still have those baby teeth.

All puppy teeth should fall out by about 6 months. If they are loose (you can wiggle them), giving your pup a good chew toy may help. Otherwise they should be removed, retained puppy teeth can cause crowding and spots for tartar to build up. Has he been neutered yet? If not you can get the teeth removed at the same time as his neuter.

@pixiecat: Thanks, thats kind of what I was thinking but didn’t know for sure. He has not be neutered yet, I just adopted him less than a month ago and wasn’t sure he was going to be a good fit in my home with my other mini but they are learning to like each other and he has turned out to be a keeper and I have already scheduled an appointment to have him neutered. I will be sure to ask the vet about removing them then because he chews a lot and hasn’t lost them yet.

I jsut asked my Vet about this. She said let nature take its course. And dont worry if you dont find them. Most often they swallow them

My mom’s weenie dog had issues with his teeth growing in. His puppy teeth weren’t falling out and letting “nature take its course” was not working.
They needed to be surgically removed.
