this post doesnt really belong under any category, but i am freaking out right now! the most disgusting thing happened. i sat down earlier to have breakfast. i poured my cereal into a bowl, and out came a live, disgusting, huge, beetle!!!! i was sitting on my couch with a tray in front of the TV. so it started crawling around the tray. i jumped up with the tray and ran to the bathroom hoping to dump it in the toilet. as soon as i got to the bathroom it jumped off the tray on the floor. so i put the tray on top of it and left it. this all happened so fast, i practically started hyperventilating after! after i calmed down i went to get paper towels to pick it up, but i just couldn’t do it. i left it for over an hour. i was planning to workout and go to work, but i havent done anything.
just now i went to lift the tray, hoping it would be dead. it was there and not moving. i was relieved, i got the paper towel and leaned over it to pick it up, hesitated because even dead, i am still disgusted and mortified by the thought of touching it…..then it jumped and moved! i put the tray back on as quickly as possible and i don’t know what to do now!!!!! normally my Fiance takes care of these things, but i am alone now as he out of town for a few weeks!
i am sooooo grossed out and still freaking out. how can i kill it? i know i sound so pathetic and stupid, but i am not thinking straight and need to move on with my day!

Deep breath. Trap it under a glass with something firm underneath, then toss it outside. Or in the toilet. Whatever
I got over my bug thing after living alone for a few years. That’ll do it, I promise

@ejs4y8: thanks. i have been told in the past to use a glass and something firm, but i am so afraid i won;t do it quickly enough and it will get out from under the glass! i am actually a lot better than i used to be. i lived alone for several years before living with Fiance and i finally had to learn to kill spiders. got to the point where it only took a few minutes and sometimes i didn’t even need to wear gloves!
but this beetle is a whole other category! plus since i have been living with Fiance for the past 6 months, i guess i went to old habits of never killing anything. i am thinking to put a glass and leave it there until it dies, but i feel bad. i did that to a spider once when i first lived on my own and it just seems so horrible.

Put the glass over the bug, the slide something thin under the glass and the bug.
You don’t have to worry about being fast- the bug has nowhere to escape.

One of the few things that I cannot handle in life is bugs! Here’s what I do: I suck it up with vaccuum cleaner. I put the longest attachment we have on it so I can stay as far away as possible. After I suck it up, I cover the end with foil so it can’t crawl back out.
My husband thinks I am insane, but it works!

@misslene: i had a mini vacuum once, back when i first lived alone and i used it on spider thinking it was a great idea. well, after i saw it was still crawling around in there, i could never use it again! even weeks later, i did not want to clean that thing with a dead spider in it! so i ended up throwing it out and getting a new one!! i just told my Fiance this now and i think he thinks i am crazier than ever before, if that was even possible!
so basically vacuum cleaner is out for me. i just a cup over it and am leaving it there for the time being. i might ask someone at work to come by after and get it in the toilet for me, i’ll see.
i know this is all irrational, but thats what happens when you have an irrational fear! and i study psychology no less!

oh ewww, i just realized that this is a cockroach, not a beetle!

Omigosh you are STILL waiting to do something about it?!?!?!
Sending courage…GO! Cockroaches are gross. You’ll feel better once you flush him and wash your hands.

I’m like you, I’m incredibly squeamish around bugs and just cannot get myself to kill them. Yesterday i was going to the bathroom at work at there was a grasshopper on the wall! I work at a small home improvement store, and the bathroom just has one toilet. I’m also the only one that works here, so I couldn’t have anyone kill it for me. After I was finished I ran out and shut the door. I just decided that I was not going to go to the bathroom for the rest of the day. Well, it was a 9 hour shift, so a few hours later I had to go again. I opened the door, and it was in the sink. I grabbed a bottle of windex and sprayed it, hoping it would kill it or at least make it weak, and it jumped onto the floor (i think I jumped just as high when this happened). I grabbed a broom and smashed it from a distance to kill it. Then once it was dead I swept it up into a dust pan and threw it outside. I was totally freaking out the whole time.

I feel your pain! I am petrified of anything that crawls. I also have this huge fear of geckos, which somehow always seem to try to run inside the house.

HAHAH! I can usually kill bugs on my own but one time there was this jumpy weird giant crickety thing in the kitchen and every time i tried to get it, it would jump. It was horrible. I called Fiance hysterical and he was like well what do you want me to do?! Come kill it DUH! I went in hid in my room for like two hours until he got home and squashed it. He was terrified of it too though. There was lots of shrieking from both of us lol. He killed it, but made me pick it up and put it in the trash. I feel your pain. I’ve heard spraying bugs with hairspray will kill bugs. You could try that.

@dynamic_duo: How did this end? Were you able to kill it? The same thing happened to me couple months ago and I posted about it so don’t feel bad about being squeamish, you’re not the only one:

@dynamic_duo: If it makes you feel any better, if it’s the giant-type cockroach, it’s a lot less likely there’s an infestation near you. I used to get them about once a year at an old building I lived in. I think they came off the trees.

i was just coming back to update. i just got back from work – i had left it a cup on top of it all day – but its still alive!! i NEED to get rid of it tonight. i spoke to someone in the office in my apt. complex and they said i have to “be brave and kill it” and they will send someone on monday to spray my entire apt.
i have Raid, i might try to use that. i am just terrified to lift the cup and it will run away. i could smash it with a shoe, but that grosses me out soooooo much, especially if it gets stuck to the bottom! (that happened the first time i ever killed a spider, i hit it so hard with a shoe that i had to scrape it off!), and i am also afaid i wont hit it hard enough and the shoe won’t kill it and then it will get away.
i am also thinking about doing the cup and plate thing, but all i imagine is my hand slipping or not being quick enough and it jumps on me!
so i am on wedding bee avoiding doing anything for the moment 🙁
anyone live in Fresno and want to come by???
