Courthouse! :) With a nice restaurant reception afterward, of course. That's what we're doing. Not sure if it's an option in the UK, but it's fairly common here in the States.

Can you and your FI take on second jobs to save up some money for a wedding and the future?  Yes, it it stressful but hopefully temporary.

Cutting back on the shopping?  Unless you mean groceries and things like that, sometimes you need to cut back on the luxuries like going out to eat and buying new things in order to save up for things.

Lots of destination wedding locations have full packages as well - you might look into that if that might be something you are interested in, and you could save towards that goal.

Also, just go to the courthouse!  You could always have a big shindig when things are better and do a really nice vow renewal.  Good luck to you!

I've been selling stuff on Craigslist or Ebay of things we don't need or use anymore.  It's not alot of $, but every bit helps!

Here is my idea for a cheapo wedding  -

Have a friend or family member who is well spoken get an officiate liscense online - I have a few family members who have this and are legally able to marry you!

Get married at a pretty outdoor park

Have friends and family members bring food potluck style to an outdoor area at the park that has benches and tables

Buy the nice plastic silverware/plates etc.

Get flowers from a family of friends garden and put them in mismatched vases !

Have a friend bring their IPOD for music

    Make cupcakes

Get a dress from the second hand websites on the internet and don't have bridesmaids and have your guy wear nice pants, dress shirt and tie!

That wouldn't cost very much! You could just get like 10- 30 packs of beer, and a few cases of wine and that would really be your biggest expense.

Get an inexpensive ring for now and upgrade later!

It will all work out... you don't need 10,000 dollars to be happily married.  If you and your FI want to be married and start your lives together then a small bbq would be perfect!

You could even bring backyard games like washers or bags and paint them in your wedding colors!

I think the courthouse is a great idea!  After spending months going absolutely crazy with wedding planning, I think we should have just eloped!

I feel the same way!! We got engaged at the end of 2009, and now, I really want to be married. We've talked about a courthouse wedding, but I know I'll regret it if I don't do the traditional ceremony. I spent hours upon hours looking for the perfect location, that is also easy on the wallet. And then, I found it! Its a community center, that was originally a church. So yes, its beautiful. The rental is $1000 - yikes - but I can do anything with it. Its so beautiful, I don't have to worry about decor. Plus, I can bring in my own food, drinks, etc. Our wedding is still going to be easy $5000, but at least it's not the $10,000 I got quoted for. We're going to spend the next 2 years saving like crazy. We have a goal of buying a house after the wedding too. I really hope we can do it, cause I want it so bad.

My advice is to look around. The perfect place I found was found my a pure miracle. I was on a wedding forum and just randomly came across it. I'm so happy with all the hours I spent looking. Even though I felt like I was losing my mind, it was totally worth it!
