So I have my dress on layaway, its the style I went into the store wanting to have... its $200 plus will cost $200 in alterations. Not bad for a wedding dress :).
But THEN I went to a prom dress store today with a friend & found a pretty dress I really really like the style of & its $150 & it fits me perfectly! I'm not sure if it looks like a wedding dress thou... what do you think?
Pic #1 is my dress on me.
Pic #2 is the prom dress on a model.
I love lace and bows, but I am not really fond of the second dress. I really love the way your first dress choice looks on you.
I don't know that by looking at the photo I would say"yeah that's a wedding dress!" BUT at a wedding, seeing a woman wearing that while walking down an aisle, I would never think that it was a PROM dress. I think it's stunning. It's different, it's romantic, it's fresh. I truly hope you have the guts to make that switch because this is quite a statement dress!! I just love a gutsey bride!
i love both.. but I really think the first dress suits you wish we had a piccy of the second dress on you. its tough!
I should add that the prom dress will be the ivory color, it just looks better on me than white does!
I originally really liked my 1st wedding dress, its beautiful but now I'm not sure if its me. I really like how it looked on me but it needed alterations so maybe that's why I'm second guessing & plus I don't have good quality pics so I can't really tell how it looks on me. But everyone says they love it, its perfect for me! I enjoyed trying it on & got excited about being married :).
Then I went into the prom dress store & saw this prom dress & couldn't believe it! I really liked that dress & had to try it on & liked it a lot as well! I kinda regretted already having my wedding dress on hold.
We're having a vintage theme & I really like the prom dress as it fits the style and already fits me perfectly. But does it look wedding-ish enough? I don't want to regret it later. Plus I'd loose my deposit to my other dress, but I think that's just $20 since it was so cheap!
I'll go to the store tomorrow & take a pic of the 2nd dress on me if I can. I didn't have anyone with me to get their opinion & I just couldn't decide. Funny thing is FI went to that store with me the other day & he saw a short length version of that dress & he wanted me to try it on, just for fun so maybe my bridesmaids could wear it & he LOVED it (the short length one in a red color)... he loves things that are not traditional & I do as well.
@virginiamarie: ha yea that's where I'm stuck, its not typical but I love it anyways. I like being different & our wedding isn't going to be completely traditional. Yet I also like classic things.. ohhh decisions, decisions...
I personally like the second one. I'm not a big fan of pick ups and ballgowns, but I love lace and layers! My vote is totally biased LOL!
It sound like you really like the second one. Will you lose too much money if you cancel the lay away. If not cancel and get the dress you want. Remember it's your day.
They are both very pretty! The first one looks more like a wedding dress, but it sounds like you love the second one more, and if it's a very small deposit that you would lose, I say go for the one you love!
I would have to see the second one on you to make up my own mind. I think they're both pretty, and I wouldn't question the second one not looking weddingy enough. The only thing that gives me pause is that I don't think it's really all that flattering on the model. I think that the cumberband area should be tighter or narrower or just something. She looks rather straight up and down to me.
I prefer the second dress and I think it would go best with the vintage theme of your wedding.
Hey date twin! I like both. Very tough decision. I think we can only really give you a GREAT opinion if you take a pic with the 2nd dress on. I like the second one ALOT but looks weird on that girl. Id have to see how it is on you.
For $150 I'd make it my reception dress. Keep both!
if you have a vintage theme then go for the second one. The first is more romantic and princess like. the second would definitly go with a vintage hairband or vintage comb. Trust your inner voice as i did! i had a second dress too and i was always searching for another dress because i was not really happy! and now i have the dress i always wanted since the beginning of wedding planning. But all peoples told me to go with this big and romantic wedding dress. it really suits me too but its not me! so i buyed another one and i am happy now!
The second dress looks very vintage and romantic, if that is what you are looking for then go for it! Even if you lose your $20 deposit you are still spending less on a dress than you would if you bought the second one (so long as you do not need alterations on the prom dress). The first dress is pretty, but it looks very princessy.
It really sounds like you like the second one better. I wish you had a picture of yourself in the lace one, because wedding gowns ALWAYS look better on a real life bride. I think that if you saw a picture of yourself in the second one it would look like a wedding dress, because it would be! I say make the switch. Is that first dress from David's Bridal? It kind of looks like it in the background. Anyways, they might work with you on the deposit money if you buy BM dresses there, or your headpiece. It's worth asking. :)
i agree with virginiamarie it really is a statement dress and doesn't look like a prom dress at all! It is absolutely gorgeous!
Now here's the thing.. they are two totally diff styles...one is classic bridal and the other is modern. How do you want to feel on your day? I actually like the look of the second one.
I LOVE the second dress! Personally I think dress #1 looks like every other ballgown wedding dress I've seen. I'm in love with the second dress' layers and lace, I think it will fit in more with your vintage wedding theme! Go for the 2nd one if its the dress you really love!!
I prefer the second one, maybe because it looks a lot like my dress, which is also a prom dress! I just like it because it's NOT a typical wedding dress.
But I personally am not a fan of poofy skirts and pickups. It does look nice on you, though. :)
This is mine:

Ok my MOH is taking me to the store today & she's gonna take a pic for me & help me decide as well :). Thanks for your help cause I wasn't sure if the 2nd one would work & now I think I like it more but I'll post pics & that will def help the decision!
Yea I need to see the 2nd one on you, since as a dress, I like it better!
I like the first better! I think it is so elegant and pretty and a great deal for $200!!!
I would like to see the second dress on you..because I like it....but I feel like it would look different on EVERYONE!
I will wait for pics :)
Either way, love both dresses!
I prefer the second dress (I think it's super whimsical and romantic) but it's hard without seeing it on you.
me in 2nd dress. Its on sale for $130 plus NO alterations needed :). I could get married tomorrow in this dress!
I actually love the 2nd dress because the top part of the dress is gorgeous with the bow and all! Plus what a great price!
I say keep the first one, it looks beautiful on you. #2 looks like a prom dress and you don't want to see that in pics 20 years from now!
i LOVE THE 2ND ONE! And I think it looks beautiful on you and shows off your beautiful figure more. Not prom like to me at all. With a veil or a hair flower it will be amazing! :) Good luck.
PS I like the sash in the middle but maybe cut some other the extra ribbon hanging off.
I like the 2nd one even more now! It looks great on and you and its unique. I wouldnt have thought this was a prom gown at all! I would definitely say go for it and use your big savings on something else for the wedding! Beautiful Find!
I really like both dresses on you. I think the first dress looks more like a wedding gown but the second dress definitely does not look like a prom dress. The second dress would work as a wedding dress and would be perfect for your vintage theme wedding but I'm really not feeling the large bow. I agree with d marie and think you should cut off some of that extra part that's hanging off the side. The second dress is beautiful and a very good deal!
Looks much better on you than on the model! I had my doubts, but now that I've seen it, I have to say that I'd go with the second one if I were you. I do agree with D.Marie, though--the sash looks good, but I think the extra ribbon hanging off could go. Great find!
