@sarahcisme: lol, I think we all do! I wouldn't worry about it too terribly much. It's great that you're eating well and realized what was happening!
@sarahcisme: so funny, I just blogged this yesterday! I was eating really health until about 18 weeks (25 weeks now), and now all I want is junk food--especially sweets! I don't think I can give up all junk all together because it seems like it's what my body craves! However, I've made a cautious effort to mix in more nutritious foods with some of the junk that I eat (e.g., I'll eat a salad for lunch, but let myself have a cookie for dessert... dessert is a big thing for me right now!).
@toucan: I think you're right. I've decided a little bit of sweets/junk food is ok as long as I'm also getting the nutrients I really need throughout the day.
@sarahcisme: I think "cheating" with junk food is totalyl acceptable some of the time. We're giving up so many other things we love that it makes sense we should splurge sometimes. My splurge today: jell-o with fruit in it and chocolate pudding.
You guys are so motivated! I'm impressed! My rule was, "If I don't throw it up, I can eat whatever I want." Lol!
@Mrs. Spring: That's how I was with Moose. Wombat is more accomodating to my needs. I figure that means I'll pay for it when I pop Wombat out.
@Mrs. Spring: Yeah, I've been so sick this pregnancy that both my OB and I subscribe to a "that which does not make you hurl is perfectly acceptable to eat." I went through a donut phase, but now I'm 35 weeks and I pretty much exist on peanut butter crackers and apple juice.
@TheFutureMcBride: Not necessiarly!
With my son, I wanted all things sweet. The sweeter the better (especially chocolate and healthy choice ice cream... mmmmm!) I also gained lots of extra weight from my eating habits, lol.
With my daughter, I ate healthier and all I gained was baby weight. Afterwards, my eating habits returned to normal, as did my weight.
I kinda figured it was due to the fact one was a boy, the other a girl. I also highly recommend eating healthy, not "eating for two", and limiting the junk food to keep the extra weight off (it's a pain in the arse to loose...).
Yeah I ate all my Girl Scout cookies in a matter of days. I've stopped weighing myself. It's kind of a huge bummer that no matter what you eat you're going to gain weight (I KNOW it's healthy - but it's still a kick in the brain).
I haven't been eating that healthy either...I mean, my non pregnant eating habits were much better. I am still eating a lot of fruit and vegetables, which is good, but for actual meal stuff, all I want is pizza or chicken nuggets. It is so challenging coming up with dinner foods that are healthy and still sound good.
Also, I've never in my life had a sweet tooth- when I wanted a treat I'd lean more towards chips and fries and other salty stuff. Now all I want is donuts, every day.
I am the same way. Today is back to getting some good fruits and veggies into my diet. I was doing SOOOO good!
I eat lots of heatlhy food but also lots of not so great stuff, I am like a little food monster since starting the third trimester. I could eat constantly - it's like i'm in the first trimester again, I've even gone downstairs in the middle of the night to eat. So frustrating, I feel like I've gained just enough weight without going overboard during this pregnancy and I'm going to wreck it all this last trimester, but at the same time I'm like well if I'm hungry I should eat - OK maybe time for some grocery shopping and I won't buy any chocolate (chocolate = crack to me right now).
@Mrs. Spring: Amen! That was my rule for the first 10 weeks, now that I'm at week 11 the nausea seems to have subsided (mostly) and I haven't thrown up in days (knock on wood!)
I feel like my appetite is finally returning so hopefully the healthy food will too, but brownies and Thin Mints are just sooooo good!
Me too! I'm 14wks and my appetite for sweet things are BACK! 1at trimester- healthy, nothign sweet, not even the desire for it...now??? I ate 3 brownie bites and sugar free pudding. Gonna eat some pizza before my SO sees me. (He gets on me about what I eat, talking about I don't want a 35lbs baby!LOL) Hey, I ate broccoli for lunch and a healthy breakfast!
I found myself too tired to prepare proper meals, so I ate a ton of poptarts, bagel bites, spaghetti-o's, and other processed crap. I've tried really hard this week to come up with better options for lunch, like chicken wraps and a tuna sandwich thrown in here and there. Be wary with the sugar, my ob/gyn is blaming my yeast infection on too much sugar and starches, like my overabundance of mashed potatoes. I just really like mashed potatoes!! So that's sucked. I've chopped up a bunch of veggies, stocked up on fruit, and tried my best to shape up what I'm eating. I don't want my kid growing up on sugar cereals and frozen dinners, so I might as well practice now, you know?

For the first trimester I was doing an amazing job of eating nutritious foods and really paying attention to the things I was putting in my mouth. Now I'm at 18 weeks and I'm realizing that for a while now, I have been eating a lot of junk! All the time! When I started to think about how much junk food and empty calories my baby and I have been eating it really made me feel like a horrible mom. TODAY I'm making changes and getting back on the healthy food wagon, starting with a trip to the grocery store. Anyone else have some little or big slip ups along the way?
