Ok, so my BF's best friend got married about a month or so ago. BF went wedding ring shopping with best friend and best friend's now wife.

The wife told me that my BF checked a ring out, swapped the center stone because quote "it's too small", got a quote BUT didnt put a deposit down. Cry

    WHAT DOES THIS ALL MEAN!!!!???

Then he says we wont be engaged till next year.

    Bees, any explanations????

i think it means he's definitely thinking about, and getting closer to buying you a ring!  it's a good step!  i can imagine that you're impatient, but really...this is good news that he's looking and gathering information/price quotes!  be excited!!

My guess is he's either a) trying to throw you off the scent b) making payments and won't get the ring until they're through or c) waiting for a significant day because of something he has planned.

Either way, at least you know it's coming! To me, that has been what's made waiting for the ring itself bearable.

He probably liked how a larger stone looked, but wants to save the money and actually go buy it when he can just pay for the whole thing in cash.

He's still researching! That's all it means. BF and I have been looking at rings since February and our/my tastes have changed so many times. It's a big purchase and there's a lot to learn so he's probably just covering all the bases so he feels comfortable spending so much! And hey at least in my world bigger is always better Tongue out

He's looking and thinking about it--that sounds good to me! And technically, next year is just a couple months away :) Lillindy has a good point, maybe he's saving for it now that he has an idea of how much it is.

My FH was looking at rings for quite a while before he actually bought it - and he could have at any time. I think sometimes they have to get themselves used to the idea, you know?

It might not be such a good thing that you have insider information about the deposit! My advice to other ladies in waiting (who ask me) is as long as you are comfortable with his timeline, just sit back and relax. The only time to get nervous and fidgety is if he refuses to talk about getting engaged or openly states he doesn't ever want to.

It is kind of annoying now that I know she has insider information. But I took a vow I will not ask her any questions or even bring it up.

hey, he's on the ball! also, he may be me shopping around still. is he generally a 'when i see something i like and want, i buy it on the spot" type, or does he look at a few options/compare prices and then make what he thinks is the best purchase? you should be heartened by the fact that he has started the process, and that he probably doesn't want to get something too prematurely (in case 3 months from now you mention/show him a ring that you like and it's radically different than what he picked out). exciting news though!
