I don’t know why, but I just REALLY dislike Calla Lilies, and my Fiance dislikes them (but only specifically as a boutonniere). But I can tell many out there LOVE them, and I can definitely understand what their advantages are. They have an interesting look that gives off a simple and modern feeling…but I still can’t get myself to like them for whatever reason. Its been a bit awkward because my Future Mother-In-Law LOVES them a lot (she always talked about them for the wedding and sent me many pictures of them) and I know they’re not in the wedding nearly as often as she was hoping they would be and I do feel bad about that (we ended up emphasizing Gerbera Daisies as a cost effective compromise). In the end Calla Lilies will be showing up in my bouquet, the moms’ corsages, and the dad’s boutonnieres (my Fiance refused to have it as his boutiniere).
I’m more of a hydrangea gal myself, originally I was planning on doing nothing but hydrangea everywhere (from Costco). As of right now I’ll have a steam of hydrangea in my bouquet, but that’s it. Our colors are teal blue and orange and the plan right now is to have some blue mason jars filled with orange Gerbera Daisies and berries, but I feel like the blue in the mason jars won’t add enough blue to the centerpieces for our color theme, what do you all think? So, I’m thinking I might pay an extra $70 or so out of my pocket to add a stem of lue hydrangea to each centerpiece.
What about the rest of you? Was there a flower you absolutely did not want to be a part of your day? If so, what was it?

I am having only callas and LOVE those pics! I also love orchids. I don’t want any “rustic” or wildflowers because it doesn’t fit our clean and modern theme. But I like pretty much all flowers, they just aren’t the right fit for our wedding.

I don’t like them either, but then again, they’re super modern and I’m vintage to the core. I don’t want sunflowers, red roses or gerbera daisies in my wedding, either.

I honestly can’t stand calla lillies in bridal bouquets either (for myself), and I got really fed up with one florist that I took inspiration pictures to her for what I wanted, and she kept talking about different flowers she was going to substitute in for the ones I liked. She also kept wanting to add calla lillies to everything! I finally had to walk out… she wasn’t listening to me and I felt like she was making more money off of those particular flowers or something because she kept pushing them so much!

@EffieTrinket: I also didn’t want red roses.
I like callas, they’re in my flowers. But I don’t like them all alone.

I think they are one of the ugliest flowers + they remind me of a funeral. Nothing beautiful about them

I like them except for the crazy-thick stalks. If you really didn’t like them, why did you agree to put them in your own bouquet? I would’ve just said I didn’t like them.

I hate them. I think they look like lady parts. I also know that is crazy.
I think they can be quite beautiful in other people’s weddings, and I hate saying I hate something that I know tons of people are using, but yeah… so not for me!!
My Future Sister-In-Law used them in her wedding a couple of years ago. She also had a cascade bouquet and overall, her wedding flowers (and most of her wedding) were just not my taste. She’s a Bridesmaid or Best Man, so I’ve had to be really careful with comments I make.

i don’t want to sound rude… I really REALLY don’t, but for some reason calla lillies remind me of lady parts. LOL Specifically the pink/red-ish ones.
I realize that this is something totally irrational, but I can’t get past it. For that reason, there will be no calla lillies at my wedding whatsoever. I am more of a rose girl anyways.

@EffieTrinket: Originally Gerbera Daisy was on my NO list. I wanted something that had a more wild/rustic feel to it (see below). But I’ve come around a bit on Gerbera Daisies because they were affordable and not Cala Lillies lol.

I’m neutral on calla lilies. I hate baby’s breath though.. it smells awful. Not a fan of gerber daisies in bouquets either.

@MrsMermaid: I am high fiving you right now.
Calla Lillies = Lady Parts. We are not alone.

I didn’t like them or want them originally but my mom loved them. Without knowing it they grew on me and looked wonderful in my arrangements, bouquets, and boutineers mixed with other flower variations like freesia, small roses, and white star gazer lilies. We only used white callas though with other white, purple, and pink pops of color. I’m still not a fan of colored calla lilies…they seem too dark and dingy to me.

@NAvery: high five back…
they are totally lady parts.

I like calla lilies but I am not having them as a bouquet or in my bouquet. I don’t even know if I am even having a bouquet. I really want something unique though, once i find it I will keep it secret until I show you gals my recaps! LOL
