I just found my promise ring and it brought back some sweet memories. It is 14k yellow gold and I am thinkin about having it rhodium plated and wearing it with my e-ring as a switch up set for fun.
Show me your promise rings if you have them…

@mrsmay07: thanks…go to the craft store and get a really skinny tape …super simple just paint the base colour then dry really well then tape and then apply a thick top coat of your colour so then peel off the paint before it dries!

Pretty ring and nails. I would show my promise ring but…I sold it. It was a broken promise an ex. Haha…oh well. I’m much happier with my DH. The other guy wasn’t the sharpest tool in the tool shed.

Aaaah, that is so sweet.
I like the idea of having it plated and wearing it with your ERing as an alternative sometimes.
I had a Promise Ring from my Ex (circa 1980) … he gave it to me for my Birthday our last year of Uni not long before we Graduated.
With “the Promise” that we’d get officially engaged (lol that term again) after Graduation and our first summer of work as we settled into our careers…
He was true to his word… at the end of August, we took a lunch-hour and went to a Jewellers to look at Rings. Picked out THE ONE (actually it was a Bridal Set). And when it came in at the beginning of September, he slipped it on my finger, and it was official.
My Promise Ring was a simple yellow gold. very delicate and featured a heart and my birthstone. I’m not 100% where it has gotten to… but I found something similar on-line so at least there would be a photo here, lol
PHOTO – Example of a Birthstone Promise Ring (not mine)
Lol, but there were NO Diamonds… there was no money for any sort of Diamonds back then…
Even my ERing, was mostly Gold… and just a chip of a Diamond. Gold was thru the roof and Interest Rates were an obscene 20% plus on borrowed money… Credit Cards over 30%. We were most definitely two very broke fresh faced Uni Grads.
I LOVED my Promise Ring.
I truly don’t know WHY they aren’t still “a thing”. I think they’d go a long way to putting some of the Waiting Bees at ease knowing that there was some sort of “formally recognized” ring & commitment made. I know once I had my Promise Ring, I was totally squared away with the idea that our Engagement was just around the corner… we had a TIMELINE and a mutual agreement.
And it didn’t cost oodles… lol, infact it cost a lot more back then, than it would now. When I was looking for a photo to illustrate this topic, I discovered that Promise Rings could be got for even under $ 100… even ones with Diamonds !! My old Promise Ring I know cost my Ex a lot more than that !!

I love the idea of wearing your promise ring and e-ring together, very pretty! And I love your nails!
My FI gave me my promise ring on my 18th birthday and our first Valentine’s Day together (: I fell in love with the movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s during highschool, but I had never gotten anything from Tiffany’s before. My FI called my house and pretended to be a telemarketer when I answered the phone and asked for my mom. He explained to my mom that he wanted to get me a ring from Tiffany’s, but since the closest Tiffany’s is 5 hours away, he needed to order it online. She let him use her credit card since he was still 17 and didn’t have one (which was really trusting since we only had been dating 7 months at that point aha) and he completely surprised me with it!
ETA: Yes, that is a Barbie pillowcase aha. This is not a current picture 😉 I took it on my phone in highschool and that’s why it’s so grainy aha.

To @sugarpea: OMGosh girl, what a heart-warming story…
That boy man did good (he was far beyond his years)
I can see WHY your Mom was ok with lending him her Credit Card.
Tiffany rocks !!
And also WHY you guys are still together… he was a keeper right from the start !!
And I LOVE the photo…

@GelaMac: This is my current promise ring. I still wear it everyday (not engaged), and I always get asked if it’s an engagement ring, haha.
