Personally, as a guest I wouldn't notice if the linens weren't floor length. I'd be focused on the tablecloth and lighting on the table. To me it wouldn't matter too much.
I was just looking at pictures of my venue and I'm wondering about the length of the linens as well! I'm going to have to dig out my papers and figure it out with you! Even then, if they aren't floor length, I don't plan on changing it. I'm going to spend the money elsewhere.
Honestly, I just found out my linens weren't floor length yesterday! Yup 5 months after my wedding while looking at pictures.
I didn't notice on my wedding day and so I doubt my guests noticed either!
Personally, I hate seeing table legs. How much extra is it for the floor length?
I hate floorlength linens (as a guest). They always get in my way, I'd rather have shorter linens so I can spread out without having to hike up the linens. But that's just me :) I like the look of both pictures. I think the first one is so cute-sy! Maybe because I'm not used to seeing them that short, but they look wonderful!
I would imagine that the second picture is probably considered to be floor length, with the first one being standard.
If it's in the budget and it means that much to you, the floor length would look great. But I think that the standard length ones are awesome, too.
Honestly... I cannot remember the length of table cloths at a SINGLE wedding I've ever been to. No one will notice, and if they do, they won't care. I think that we often get caught up with every last detail, but quite frankly, no one cares if they're sitting at tables with standard or floor length linens. They are there to celebrate your special day with you and enjoy the happiness of your marriage.
And if someone seriously has the audacity to judge you based on your table cloths, their priorities are WAY out of whack, and I would reconsider their invitation.
So, to answer your question: NO! It doesn't matter! Your wedding will be awesome no matter what, because you're marrying the love of your life and people want to come share in your joy.
@bakerella: not sure yet, but if the standard length is that longer one I won't care. But yea I'm really not a fan of those shorter ones.
It depends too if the table legs are big metal ones or nicer wood ones. Is it worth $100 to me personally (if I were the bride)? Yes. Is it worth $500 to me? No. If I were a guest at your wedding I likely wouldn't notice. I think in pictures it looks more polished to have full length though.
Are you using the chairs in the photos?
I actually am getting shorter linens on purpose. Floor length trips me up and just gets in my way.
As a guest, it wouldn't matter to me at all. I'm too busy staring at what's on top of the table to notice the length of the tablecloth! Also, I think the length will be less noticeable in your case compared to the photos you shared since you're using dark purple linens. :)
@kperry3: That was my fiance's argument too, that they'll just get in the way. I do think it's cute, I'm just wondering if they'll look out of place when we've done everything else to make the room fancy. I'm gonna try and just forget about it, it is what it is!
@arenyth: Would the venue be willing to do a table mock up for you so you can decide how you like it or if you want to upgrade?
@bakerella: yes the ivory and gold ones will be in that larger room
@bakerella: they did do a mockup before of our setting, but I didn't see the length in that photo. We're doing this all long distance so it's whatever pics they send me, otherwise I'll have to get my parents to check it out. Maybe I'll set up an appointment for them, can't hurt!
Honestly as a guest I have never paid attention to the length of the linens, I definately didnt notice!! I wouldnt worry about it too much if you cant get them floor length...im sure it will be beautiful regardless!
I wouldn't even notice but from the pics I actually like the shorter one better. And to be honest, they're less annoying when you're actually trying to sit at the table.
I always think the floor length looks better, but it is really annoying as a guest. And I am always worried about what is hiding under there. Like the PPs, I cannot remember the length of anyone's linens. I had standard length myself because I wasn't paying extra for something that is annoying.
I actually think the table cloths in both pictures are the same ones. Do you see how in the first pic there are 12 chairs around the tables and in the second pic there are only 9? I think they used 72" round tables in the first and 60" rounds in the second. The table cloths look different lengths but it's just due to the size of the tables. I'm guessing the cloths are 108" rounds. Do you know what size your tables will be?
yes, floor length linens annoy me. I actually prefer them at lap level but I know I'm in the minority.
@soccerball: ah fair enough, we did count the chairs and thought that 12 was way too many to put at a table, and that picture above has 8 which is what I was hoping to do. I can't believe i didn't make that connection, good job!

It doesn't matter right?! RIGHT?! We were just trying to knock out a few things this weekend, so I brought up our contract to make some final decisions about the menu and let them know what color the tablecloths should be. And somehow, a year later, I just notice that it says "standard linens included, floor length extra". Crap. I didn't think I'd care about this but I just always pictured floor length. What does standard length mean? I have two pictures from my venue:
The second one is about 6 inches off the floor, so that can't be floor length right? Would you care as a guest if they weren't floor length? The tablecloth color will be a dark purple, and there will be blue uplighting and lots of candles if that helps...
