I should have known this would happen. I purchased perfume for my wedding off Ebay and I just received it today. Its a fake. I knew these things happened but didnt think It would to me especially since I had spoken with the seller before everything.

Now I get the pleasure of paying to send it back and wait 2 weeks for my money back. It was only $42 but still.. this wedding has been a fortune. I was so excited about getting it in the mail too.

Word to the wise double check everything before you buy on ebay. Also check the feedback.

How did you know it was a fake?  Was the scent off?

Everything off ebay is not fake. I have purchased several real things off ebay. There are millions of items for sale on ebay and while there are some ppl selling fake stuff..that statement is unfair to the ppl who sell real stuff. You do however, need to check things out. I agree with checking feedback.

I have never gotten anything fake from Ebay.  Personally, I don't buy purses or anything on there but I have gotten DVDs, perfume, etc and never had a problem.

I'm sorry - that totally sucks. I hate when ebay sellers misrepresent themselves.

I got real perfume from ebay on more than one occasion. I'll see if I can find out who the seller was and if they're still in business since it was a while ago.

ETA unfortunately they are not in business. Sorry - wish I could help!

Haha Ok I am sorry Everything off ebay is not fake but A LOT of it is purses, northfaces, perfume, sunglasses...if its way cheaper than retail price then its probably fake.

Did you check this person's reviews?  Usually, it can show you if other people are generally happy with what they purchased.

How much did you save, if it was the real product?  Sometimes, I'm a bit wary of products if the price is too good to be true.

It's sucks, though.  I would be pissed, too.

I opened a dispute and they said they will get back to me by May 14. The seller wants me to pay to return it. I end up losing money on this plus the whole time watching this item (a week) I end up wasting lots of time and excitement. It was Chanel perfume. I knew it was cheaper but thought they just started the bid low.. thats what I thought an auction was for... this seller had tons of good reviews.. but after all this I looked and noticed he had feedback of a couple people who said they received a fake.

I feel stupid. I completely just got scammed. Makes me want to seriously go nuts on this guy.

That sucks!  It definitely is buyers beware no matter how much you communicate with the seller.  The one good thing is that you can get your money back at all.

I LOVE ebay.  When it comes to sunglasses and purses, I almost prefer the fakes, because I know I'm saving a TON of money.  Different strokes.  But when I went to go buy perfume off of ebay, I noticed it was odd that some because were just selling the box or just the empty bottle, so I knew right away that I had to do a lot of research before I made a purchase.

I ended up buying it from a girl who received it as a present but already had one or something like that.  Which meant no stock photos, she only had a few other personal items for sale, it wasn't coming from a warehouse in China, and I was actually helping someone out.

I've never gotten ripped off before, but I have gotten some pretty badly misrepresented items, so I know the feeling.  At least you're just out the shipping! They could play hard to get with your money if they were skeevie enough.  I hope it all works out for you! Then negative feedback away!

I've gotten real perfume off ebay - but it's usually just because I get the sample sizes so to keep in my purse.

I'm pretty sure that paypal should make sure you're covered and wont have to eat the return shipping I could be wrong. I've dealt with ebay a TON and paypal is pretty buyer friendy. Let us know I'm curious how it turns out.

I've had good luck with bigdiscoutnfragrances.com  I've never been scammed with them.  i used to wear Jessica McClintock which is a fortune at the perfume counter.  I paid darn near half at Big Discount Fragrances.  They also send me emails with free shipping sales all the time.

Thank goodness you can get your money back, though!  I'm sorry that happened.  Good luck.

**I meant to add the only thing with Big Discount Fragrances is you just have to make sure you're not buying a tester, unless you don't mind having a less-than-full bottle for the amount of savings you get.  They are usually clearly marked though.

First off, are you 100% sure its a fake? Can you go to your local store where they sell the purfume to verify this?

Check the ebay page listing & see if it says ANYWHERE that is is "real" or something along those lines. Print that out. Photograph the perfume bottle you received, so you have "proof" (hopefully something's "off" on the bottle so its easy to see its a fake).

Do NOT send it back to the seller yet. Contact Ebay & let them know it was a fake. There may be laws against that. Just do what Ebay wants you to do. Go thru Ebay, not thru the seller. Ebay may note that on their account & that'll help others from being scammed.

You can mail the item back thru the mail "COD" so they charge the person who RECEIVES the item back. So, the seller would have to pay the Post Office to pick it up. Not sure if you get your original shipping back, hopefully its not too much!

If you paid via PayPal, you should be covered. If you paid thru your credit card, I'd dispute the charges thru your bank & you should get a full refund.

I will keep you posted for sure! I am still waiting to hear back from this guy. All those poor people who had no idea they were buying fake perfume like me...He has for return policy I can return within 7 days but have to pay for return shipping... I am hoping Paypal will pay that too. It will cost me $5.60 to return it. I just wish I didnt feel so stupid falling for it. I guess I was hoping so much I got a good deal.. yea I got a good deal on a fake Chanel Coco perfume LOL

I'd tell the seller you are very unhappy about receiving a fake item & that you want to be fully reimbursed for the item & all shipping costs. You shouldn't have to pay for anything if he advertised it as real.

Oh I just remembered this, you can try this . . .

I got a DVD off ebay and it was SOOOO obviously pirated that I wrote to the seller and said "your listing states that this is the REAL DVD this is clearly not the case. I suggest you refund me in FULL. If you do not, I am going to report you not only to ebay but also to Walt Disney Home Video's Distribution Department and report that you are selling pirated DVD's".

I actually didn't think I'd ever hear from the guy again but it totally worked I got the full refund and I got every penny I sent to them back plus I never had to return the DVD so it's worth a try but mind you this DVD was so clearly clearly clearly a copy that they would have been screwed.

Another point to make. I have bought perfume off ebay and one time a seller stated in their listing that they had purchased 2nds from the company, so technically you're getting the real perfume but it was bad bottles (misprinting or some other flaws) so make extra sure its not the real deal and not something like that as well.
