This is going to seem completely random since I haven’t shared much with (most) of the hive about my job or what is going on with it. Basically something I once loved was turning into something I hated…well, today I put in my two weeks notice! I was going to try and wait to do it Thursday but I finally just did it today.
::::WAVES OF RELIEF::::::::
I am one of the bosses/a manager and so I had to 1) tell my direct supervisor and 2) tell his supervisor (which I haven’t yet..because my boss wanted to tell him first…complicated but basically the chain of events is supposed to be done in a very certain way)
I feel like I’m gonna puke when I talk to my bosses boss…but I know I’ll feel so much better after I do! I am a little scared…the weddings in 5 months and we are moving to Texas! But I am so excited and happy and it NEEDED to be done.
WHEW! sorry if that was so random…but I felt really compelled to share. You guys are my friends, ya know?
Anyone else ever done this and felt such mixed feelings? I am sure I’ll cry (or close) on my last day. It was my first “real” job and I was there a long time…but it was something that I needed to do.

so, when is your last day? Is it before the move or were you leaving earlier bc you now hate it?
I’m having a bad day at work today, so I had to read about it what it feels like. 😉

I felt so weird giving my notice. I was so glad to be out of there but at least I had an excuse of moving across the country so I didn’t have to go into the fact that honestly I hated working there. Enjoy the feeling and remember you will be free soon!

Good for you! You have to do what makes you happy or what kind of life would you be living? yeah for more WEDDING PLANNING time too!!
Before I got the job I’m in now I had a job that I HATED. I mean have you seen The Devil Wears Prada…yep that was my boss. I have a 4 year degree and she thought all I could do was print and walk things to her office and file. UGH. I was so relieved when I got laid off. It forced me to look at my life and realize I was settling with that job becuase I needed the money, not because I liked doing it. I was so happy when I found and got the job I am in now. I’m a much happier person and I don’t get chest pains when I’m at work like I used to from stress!
Congrats on your freedom!

@cannot…well technically, it is an “at will” employer so I could be done today if I wanted. I have a great track record with the company (my boss KNEW something was up, and so did my bosses boss…I am very professional/had a “bright” future with the company, etc) so I decided to be professional through the end and give a two weeks notice.
I also have a huge project thing going on through the 12th, so even though I’d be done the 8th I have already told my boss I am prepared to work though the end of the project (the 12th or 13th I believe).
It feels INSANE. This is a job I loved and it was exactly what I thought I wanted (for awhile) but now know I don’t at all. It is a company where 95% of the successful people aren’t married/family folk for one thing (a very bachelor type brand). I also met my FH at the company (he is no longer at the same company) so that is bittersweet as well. I have had many friends at the company (some have left, some still are there). It is a VERY strange feeling…I am sure I will be upset my last day. I am the most sad about leaving my associates (I am one of the 3 bosses of about 60 amazing amazing people).
I am EXCITED to be done. I am going to be nannying for 5 months! And have so much more free time then I have had in…forever?! I am going to be working 25 hours (compared to my old 50+ not to mention stressing every day about the job even when not there). I am going to resume working full time once we move to Texas (right before the wedding…the wedding will be in Michigan…and we will be officially relocated after the honeymoon).
@cannot…what part of Texas are you?
@MissAsb I agree…moving is a helpful thing to say! haha

I was so nervous both times I gave my notice. But that’s probably because I was moving to a competitor both times for a ton more $$ and they knew it. It’s awkward and uncomfortable having the conversation, but be sure to tell them that if they are actually making you stay the 2 weeks not to tell anyone at the company if you don’t want it to get out. A lot of people want to keep it hush-hush so people don’t bombard them with questions.

and chest pain? I feel ya! I also have a degree and am…was? working for a very powerful company…in a powerful position considering my age (22 almost 23) but it is MISERABLE. I work my a$s off and you don’t get credit for it when you deserve it….that is one of the (many) frusterating things about it….I’m a hard worker and don’t mind working hard but I would like to have some sort of motivation and/or REASON for working hard…there is NO insenative minus a pat on the head (not quite…but basically literally).
THANK YOU all for your support. WHEW!

@moderndaisy..GREAT advice! I am sure I’ll get a lot of questions…a lot of people are directly reporting to me and I have a great relationship with them.
also, it is VERY awkward especially because another girl quit and then they “convinced” her to stay….I was like “look, I am not changing my mind” haha.
@honeybear…thanks! where in Texas are you?

I’m in Austin now. I let myself get way to “physically” worked up at work, but I just feel like things are so extreme lately…I’m actually stepping away from my desk right now to step outside for a few and get some sunshine. (I don’t feel guilty, since I usually work through lunch and eat my bagged lunch at my desk…which is kind of gross.)

YAY! As much fun as I have at my job, it makes me a little bit crazy and I am so ready to quit and move on!

@cannotwait…what type of work are you in? I understand what you mean…I work my booty off (and love working hard) just wish I felt like I got more incentive to do it!
@KM….I hear you! What are you doing now? and what do you want to do? or do you know…I don’t know exactly, just ideas 😉
