Hey weekend twin! You're officially at 5 months to go - yay!
We actually haven't been on BC since Sept of 2010; we moved from SoCal to NorCal right when my prescription expired, and I'd need a pap to get a new prescrip. Since I hate 'lady doctors' I haven't been back, so we've just been doing the pull 'n pray LOL!
PS - I thought BC was supposed to be free starting 2012?
@Miss Godiva: Yay, thanks for replying to my thread! I figured that maybe I am the only person excited about this, lol. And ahhhh, 5 months to go, weekend twin!
I live in Canada, but that is AMAZING if BC is going to be free in the US this year! How cool.
Good luck with the pull 'n' pray, you have a dress to fit into, missy! :P
@Juliepants:Wooohoo for you guys! Soon you'll be Julienopantsdance ;-) lol. We're not TTC for a couple of years, but I drop my pills in 3 more packs and switch to FAM. So I can at least celebrate the no more pills part with you :-)
@NDBee: Bwahahaha Julienopantsdance! You're hilarious!!
I'm really looking forward to not having chemicals pumping through my body and just being off the pill. I wouldn't even mind if it took us a while just so I could enjoy my regular hormones! Just 3 more packs for you....that's great, and so soon!
@lisha_1988: Ouch! That's steep. I think mine must be around 15 dollars a pack plus the ten dollar dispensing fee. I remember back when I was in university, I was able to get them for $7 a pack through their wellness centre.
Are other forms of BC expensive in Australia, too!?
@Juliepants: There are other pills available that are less expensive but Ive gotten pregnant on a pill before so I had to get a stronger one and ATM im worried to change as the wedding is in 10 months! So Ill have to buy another 3 packs then I can change :)
Yay that is so exciting! I think we are going to start TTC in early 2013, I have enough BC packs to last me until the wedding, then I'm done! Can't wait to not have to take them anymore.
It is so exciting, isn't it?! I just finished my third last pack of BCP last night. Seven weeks to go until I finish the last pack!
Our plan, at the moment, is for me to come off BCP when I finish my last pack, and then chart for a month or two before we start to TTC. It is all I can think about at the moment!
ETA: Have been taking prenatals and fish oil, along with my usual vitamin D for the last month or so. Already work out quite a bit, but knowing that we're going to TTC in the spring is motivation to get in extra good shape.
I just got off the pill a few weeks ago in preparation to start TTC late this year. I've been on the pill for over 10 years so I'm not sure how long it will take my body to regulate itself. I wanted to be able to know my cycle already once we were ready to start trying. So far, it's suuuucked coming off the BCPs, so get ready for some fun. I've also started taking a women's multi vitamin and I'm keeping up with an exercise regimen to maintain my weight. Aside from that, we're just planning to save save save!
@Juliepants: oh wow, I get 4 packs at a time and I only pay $14....guess I can't complain, lol!!
We are getting married July 7th and I will be stopping the pill mid-way during the honeymoon.... Our original plan was to get off the pill before the wedding but the unknown side effects is what is making us wait..... like being on my cycle during the wedding/honeymoon, acne, etc...... but we are SUPER EXCITED and can't wait!!!
Congrats and good luck!!
EDIT: To answer you other question, I have been taken prenatals, hitting the gym (for the wedding as well) and I had my visit with the doctor to discuss a few things.....so we are ready, lol!
I haven't talked to FI in depth about this in a few months, but if all goes well this year (financially) we will be starting to think about TTC next year. But I am getting off BC right after the wedding, we will use condoms for a while then use charting once we are OK with the possibility of an "oops"... But we both agreed that letting my body figure out what it's supposed to do without hormonal birth control was the best thing, I've been on some form of BC for close to 10 years and I want my body to have a break before we introduce pregnancy into the mix... and we want to just enjoy being married for a bit. :)
Congrats all you 2012 TTC'ers!!
Hooray! So exciting to be in the "homestretch" of the BC countdown. :)
I have not been on the pill in years... I actually got pregnant with my son while I was using BCP... Hmm :) So that's why I ended up going with Mirena after I had him.
We are already TTC, so I'm not a late 2012'er. I am being food concious, eating breakfast (which I hate to do), cutting out caffeine, hitting up the treadmill, and taking pre-natals.
While the doc stated we could start Clomid (fertility drug) now due to my PCOS, FI and I decided we are taking the natural route until about June :) If we still haven't gotten a BFP by then we will start up Clomid.
@Juliepants: ;0) Hehe. Those were our reasons for me getting off the pill as well. After 9+ years on the pill, I wanted time to get used to my natural cycles and let my body work out the hormones well before we're working on baby-making. I've read TCOYF, and I'll be reading it again before the wedding so all the rules are fresh in my mind for when I drop the pill. I cannot wait!
@o0olibelulao0o: Looks like we're in the same boat. Here's hoping we're good charters with lots of self control :-) Hahha.
*fingers crossed* we'll hopefully be a late 2012/early 2013 TTC couple. But that's exciting - so close to TTC!
This is so exciting! A bunch of us will be part of the "baby boards" someday soon (hopefully). :)
I've started taking a regular multi-vitamin (ok, it's the Flintstones ones, shh) and I've bought folic acid that I'll wait another couple months to start. FI and I are both starting to eat a bit better as well. I'm glad there are so many others out there that share the same excitment. Good luck to all of you when the time comes!
This is a bit off topic - but I'm so jealous that you can buy six months at once! My insurance won't cover mine unless I buy one at a time (and wait at least 20 days between each one!). It's always a mad rush at the end of the month to remember to get the next one in time!
@bluebonnet: That sounds like a pain in the arse! What do they think you're going to do, sell them on the street? :P
@Juliepants:I have NO IDEA... it's not like you can overdose on them or something. But I pay $20/month with the insurance contribution, and $97/month without... so I follow their rules!
@bluebonnet: Mine used to be like that, but then I went on an overseas trip and needed 3 months worth before I left. My pharm and ins. okayed it, and ever since then I can buy 3 packs at once. Maybe you need to go on an "overseas vacation" soon ;-)
Yay, I am so glad that this thread has been started. I sort of feel that I've been in no man's land with the whole TTC thing, lurking on the Nesting boards (fact finding missions) but not really feeling able to contribute. I have PCOS and a sister with a genetically based disability so this year is the year of prep for us!
I'm on a BCP pill at the moment (used to regulate my cycles) and have just started taking Metformin as I had hit a plateau in my weight loss. After the wedding I will stop the BCP but we will continue to actively prevent (using condoms) until we get the genetic pre-testing back that will assure us that we're in the clear. We'll use that time to monitor my cycles using NFP (and maybe OPKs) to see whether my weight loss has helped and whether I am ovulating. Then on our honeymoon in Jan it is all on!
Are there things that you are hoping to get out of the way before TTC? This year we're hoping to:
I'd love to hear what you are planning to get done before you TTC!
@Juliepants: Very exciting!
I am like you, I got my last 6 months worth at the doctors about a month ago and thought this is until until we TTC! I still had 2 months left but was going to the dr anyway and if I get it on perscription its $3 for 6 months as its subsidised by the NZ government for certain brands.
We are going to go on our main honeymoon end of June, early July and hope to start after that. I had thought of going off the pill before the honeymoon but I think I will wait until we get back, I know it might take awhile but its still exciting :)
@Juliepants: LOL thanks! I've tried the shot and several different types of the pill, but the shot had some bad side effects and the pill just made me bat shit crazy. We watch my cycle though, because he knows I have a dress to fit into!!!
@Earlybride: I heard it on the news a few months ago, just went looking online. Looks like it'll start in August this year, and may take until 2013 to actually kick in, so not quite yet :/ here's a link .... FREE BC
Figures BC would become free when you aren't taking it anymore! haha I'm right there with you on the 5 months :) I won't be working out until after the wedding haha... kinda reverse than the normal. But I started eating SUPER healthy! Prenatals after the wedding :)
@NDBee:that's genius... where shall I "go" for three months? Haha!
We planned on my stopping in six months to start cleansisng my system for a year since Im on the shot but change in plans. Im planning on going back to school and unfortunetly working with livestock isnt safe when your pregnant. So just over 4 years to go lol yay.
@Juliepants: We will be TTC'ing after the wedding. I plan on making a doctor's visit, buying pre-natal vitamins, and books to help us prepare. I'm so excited.
ETA: Of course exercise.
We're in the early 2013 camp - Jan 2013 to be exact. I've been off BC since June - we're using pull out method for right now. I'll start prenatals this summer and I'm going to probably start an Aflac plan in November to help with some hospital costs. Eek. It's going to be a long year, but I'm getting so excited.
@Juliepants: Date twin! We are going to try starting in July I think. I'm just not sure--living in Wisconsin, I definitely don't want a winter baby!!! I would love to start after we get married (like within hours) but since we already have a 3 year old...we are trying to be a bit deliberate. I'm so excited to start though! My superhero son was unexpected and the dad left me at 9 weeks preggo, so even though I have one, this will be a new experience for me (to do this WITH someone). I think it's just as exciting as the first time around, cept I have the C-Section scar already ;) lol
@MissPumpkinPie: I read every book my library had when I was pregnant with my first child, and I was so glad I did. Some say it makes them more anxious, but it really made me feel better about pregnancy in general. I am all for that!
@MissPumpkinPie: I really like Jenny McCarthy's first book--I can't remember the name of it right now. But I think it was called 'belly laughs'? Anyway, it was really good and more down to earth view of pregnancy. I loved What to Expect.... (which I hear they have a movie coming out this May with the same name as the book). This will sound crazy, but one was a super scientific pregnancy book from my library, I wish I had never taken it back LOL because it had the best pictures of what the baby looked like/was doing at each week and good charts too. I was poor at the time, so all my books were from the library and I highly suggest checking a few out before purchasing because some are not that good. I think the book I liked so much was called "pregnancy" by a DR, like 'you and a baby' or something like that. It's been 4 years :-/ And Frankly Pregnant was good too. I went for more open books that don't scare the shit out of you but still give you the facts. And sometimes reading books like Belly Laughs and Frankly Pregnant doesn't make you feel quite so crazy (this was the case with me, at least)
@andilene: Thank you! I will look into all of this. I know certain bees mentioned to check out What to Expect Before You're Expecting. I think that'll be the first ones I read. =)
@MissPumpkinPie: I really enjoyed it but you know if I remember correctly it does it by months not weeks? I was way too impatient (and a super quick reader) to wait for a month after I finished the current one! I had to have other things to read too. After I had DS though, I didn't read any child-rearing books. I went by instinct and as my dad likes to say 'good sense'. So far it's worked well. At his 3 year checkup (which was quite late--January, and his bday was in August) his nurse and doctor both raved at how well he enunciates and how much he talks...although I say that's a family problem rather than a blessing LOL :) But I had to have him by ER C-Section :-/ high blood pressure

...and I'm so excited! I bought 6 packs of my pills and the countdown is on. After those 6 packs are up, we'll be TTC. I can hardly wait! :D
Where are the rest of the late 2012/early 2013 TTC'ers? Have you done anything to prepare (taking prenatals, getting in shape, etc.) already?
