I think I would have had the same exact awkward experience.

What are you supposed to do? 🙂

You did the right thing… Better to be safe! I think she overreacted a bit… It’s mighty bold to congratulate someone on a pregnancy when all you know is that they turned down xrays! She probably felt embarrassed!

You did the right thing.  I would have done the same.

The same thing happened to me!  I went to the dentist right around O day, but I wanted to play it safe so I told them yes, there is a chance I could be pregnant.

The hygenist wasn’t sure what to do, but the dentist came in and examined my teeth and made sure that there wasn’t anything visible that needed attention.  Luckily I didn’t seem to have any cavities, so they didn’t do x-rays.

The ladies in the office were all really sweet about it and acted excited for me, but I did feel a little embarrassed.  They had me schedule an x-ray appointment for next week that I will go to if I don’t end up pregnant this cycle.  I sure do hope that I can cancel that appointment 🙂

at least they let you get your teeth cleaned! my dentist office wouldn’t let me get a cleaning (even though i had my xrays 4 months before) without a doctor’s note.

Ugh. I don’t think they’ve ever asked me at the dentist, but I’ve had 2 cat scans since being sexually active, and they asked me both times. I said yes, there’s a possibility. But I got the scans because the benefits of the scans outweighed the possibility of causing harm to a child I could almost guarantee I was not pregnant with. Luckily, I wasn’t pregnant, and it would be a totally different scenario if I was TTC or NTNT!!!

I made sure to tell my doctor, dermatologist, etc, that we were trying – just in case.

I was wondering what I would do if it was time for Xrays and I was in the two week wait. Luckily, I was due for X rays the last time I went and I had just had my period the week before so I knew I was OK, and I wont be due for another year. But I did tell them of my change in medication– stopping the pill, and the nice hygenist asked me, nicely, a little about it. But in a way that I could have easily deflected it if I wanted to. I appreciated it.

Teeth x-rays aren’t vital! You only need them every 3 years or so. If you had a broken leg and refused, that might be a different story. I’m sure one teeth x-ray wouldn’t harm a fetus, but I’d rather be safe than sorry 🙂

I’m a hygienist… And I definitely encourage people telling me if they’re trying to conceive. So don’t feel silly at all! Happens all the time and no one thinks it is weird!

Also… Dental X-rays (bitewings at least) are recommended annually, not once every three years.
