on my photographer. I was really excited about hiring him, but I keep seeing websites for other photographers that I think I like even more. So far none of them have been available, but I’m not sure what I’d do if they were. Anyone else decide to upgrade their photographer? Any regrets about doing so or NOT doing so? We’re still well inside the period where we can get our deposit back if we want to.

Most photographers do not have a policy that the retainer is even refundable. You should be both confident in their abilities, as well as have a personal connection. If you’re not feeling it and have a way out, maybe you should hire a different photographer.

@vermontia: Who have you considered? I know you’re at Pigeon Hill, they might have some suggestions, or I don’t mind doing some Google searching myself 🙂 If you’re not feeling it now, I would change if you can.

Oh my goodness, I have done SO much research. Both when I booked our photographer originally and now that my eyes are wondering. As I mentioned in my original post, every single person I’ve contacted is booked up. I did contact my venue too, but they are not very good about getting back to me. So…they never got back to me with any suggestions. I took a look at our photographer’s website again and I feel a lot better about his work. Maybe it’s just a case of the grass is always greener on the other side? I know I can always find someone even more spectacular but we already doubled our photography budget, so I don’t want to increase it any more.

I’m not sure if your photographer posts complete weddings here and there or even has a blog of the most recent work but viewing either one might help you feel better ( or not ) .
