Oh man, that's the worst. YMMV, but since you're already exercising... I'm not sure what the other options are re: other ways to relieve stress.
I have some friends who have had incredible results using hypnosis to keep weight off after quitting smoking... is that an option?
Thats a good idea Mr Bee. I was originally going to try Hypnosis to give up smoking Maybe I'll use it to ease off the food,
Congratulations on quitting smoking, that's probably the single best thing you could do for your health!!! It really SUCKS that it means you've put on weight bc that's probably got you feeling LESS healthy :( I have heard it can take a while to budge the post-quitting weight, which is ok since you've got a year until your wedding! The important thing is that you're healthy and you KNOW you are capable of getting yourself to your goal weight (although unless you are super short, it's a pretty low goal weight - you could probably be a few kilos heavier and be totally fine). So try not to lose heart, keep up the good work and I'm sure you will teach yourself how to replace the cigs with good habits. Also, be sensible - if you are running an hour a day, you will need a lot of fuel to keep that up. I go to the gym 5 days a week and I eat a LOT - you have to, if you want that level of activity! Oh, and gum? That makes me SO HUNGRY, it gets your stomach ready for food so it will never work. Keep healthy snacks on hand and be kind to yourself, I'm sure you'll see the results soon!
LOL I am really short 5ft but I was really thin still in healthy weight range but right at lower end. It was hard to maintain though I had to exercise heaps and really watch what I ate, Prob now is that I have been eating everytime I want to smoke. hopefully I will have more will power once I have finished this last assign which is due tomorrow. I know I look fine now I am in the middle of my healthy weight range but I like myself a little thinner plus I have to fit into that dress.
Congrats on quitting smoking...that is a HUGE accomplishment!!! I am also 5'0 and I'm trying to get down in the 100-105 range, but I totally understand how you feel trying to maintain that weight. It is SO hard!!!
You have plenty of time to lose weight to get into your size 4 dress, so I wouldn't stress about it too much yet. It sounds like you have enough other things going on to worry about!
When I quit smoking I went through the same thing. It was SO frustrating. Just keep trying to stay healthy, and eventually the not-smoking-induced-eating will slow down. It takes a bit though, unfortunately.
Congrats on quitting smoking and losing all the weight already! What about trying to have a lollipop when you want a smoke? You'll look beautiful no matter what!
thanks everyone that makes me feel much better,
mmm lollipops thats a good idea.
Futuredrbraun I signed up for your challenge, let me know how that detox goes, and you are right it is soo hard to stay thin when u are short 'cause there is so much less body to use the fuel (does that make sense) so because we are shorter we actually have to eat a lot less, it sucks.
Have you tried making sure you only have healthy snacks on hand? I have good luck when I only stock the house with fruits, veggies, and popcorn. Eliminating bad foods and temptation goes a long way, and studies have found that people who eat healthy foods crave healthy foods, so once you eat fruits or veggies for a few days, you'll stop wanting to eat crummy food. That way, even though you are eating a lot, you are eating good foods.
And seriously seriously seriously congrats on quitting smoking. That is fantastic. Even if you gain back weight, you will be healthier if you are overweight and don't smoke than if you are a healthy weight and you do smoke.
Congrats on quiting!!
I did the SAME thing. Just drink lots of water when you want to eat. It's really just that past behavior stuck in your brain that when you're stressed, you need something. Once you've drank a glass or bottle of water, you should really be able to tell if you're really hungry and should eat, or if it's just stress triggering the hand to mouth reflex us ex-smokers were so used to.
It doesn't take long to get the toxins out of your body, but it takes a while longer to change the habits and behaviors that come from smoking. Good luck!!
Hi Simpleandchic! How are you doing on your exercises? Do you run a lot? I'm also about 5'2, but 114 pounds :( Trying to get to 100-105. What do you eat normally?
Anna
Maybe you could make sure that if you are eating a lot that it is good for you stuff? When I am trying to lose weight I only keep healthy stuff in the house and that way if I must have something to eat it's either baby carrots or a handful of almonds.
hey everyone I lost a kg (2.5 pounds) just have to keep going
@Annacruz, yeah I ru heaps 6.5km every second day and I do weight training esp Body Pump on the alternate days
Congrats on quitting smoking!Unfortunately, putting on weight after quitting is inevitable, and it happens to everybody!I tried sucking imperial mints everytime I wanted a cigarette, especially the times when I smoked out of habit (after meals, lunch break at work etc)The mints really helped, and although they are quite sugary they probably wont make you out on as much weight as pigging out on the food (which I did too lol) Hope this helps!!xx
I quit almost a year ago and have gained almost 15 pds! My doc told me that when you quit smoking your whole metabolism is going to change... I drank fruit juice (100%) and tried to chew gum and drink water! quitting smoking was the HARDEST thing I have ever done! If you have gone 8 weeks ur good to go! Good luck with everything!

Over the past 18 months I have been loosing wait and getting super fit. I reached my goal wait of 100 pounds and was feeling fab I recently ordered my wedding gown in a 4. My next goal was to stop smoking as it was eally hampering my running, and I could feel the efects of smoking even though i was training hard for an hour every day I had hit a standstill with my fitness and I couldn't get any fitter.
So I decided the fags had to go. I gave up 8 weeks ago and havn't had one since. My running has improved 100% and I am really fit and heathy, my skin, hair have improved. However I have gained 10 pounds in 2 months, I cant stop eating. I have tried gum, drinking water everything but I just can't stop! I know it is also due to the fact that I have had 6 consecutive Uni deadlines, which in the past would have meant I smoked like a train, now I just eat like a pig.
I know that it's worth it, which Is why I haven't caved. But It took me so long (my whole life) to get a body I liked and I am so scared that I wont ever be that small again and wont fit into my dress.
