Getting to Hawaii seems to be the most expensive part. We're going to try to go there -- maybe you could get some good deals since you're planning at the last minute? I'd try a travel agent.
Some other options include Aruba, the Yucatan in Mexico (although there's a hurricane risk there), and Belize.
I've been to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. I LOVED it there. I think if you do research it can be fairly inexpensive to rent a hotel for a couple of days. I dont have much information to provide -- but, I do know that when I was there I told myself it would be a beautiful place for a honeymoon. Many activities and nice restaurants. Check it out! :)
We wanted to veg at a beach too, and decided on St. Lucia, which we booked through Sandals because it's all-inclusive and we wouldn't have to worry about a lot of little details.
Since your honeymoon is coming up pretty soon, you might be able to get a good deal with a lot of resorts that offer specials requiring you to book for travel within the next couple of months (I think sandals is doing that right now). See it's not so bad after all! good luck!
We're getting married the last weekend in September and we're heading to Aruba. It's below the hurricane path so we're pretty confident we'll have great weather. Everyone we've talked to about Aruba seems to love it!
Plus, Aruba's a lot closer (much shorter flight) than Hawaii so you won't have to worry about being on a plane for two full days! Good luck!
We are going to Hawaii on November 3rd for 12 days so a little later than you but we used miles for our flights and the honeymoon actually was not as expensive as I thought it would be. It really depends on where you stay.
We went to Turks and Caicos in the Caribbean. I know you are worried about weather - but it would be worth looking into because they brag that they haven't been hit by any hurricanes in something like 30 or 40 years. It was awesome!
A girlfriend of mine and her fiance took a vacation recently to the Mexican Mayan Rivera. They got a great deal on an all-inclusive package and had a wonderful time! I am totally jealous of their pictures. You should check it out.
Go to Travel Zoo for last minute sales also check AMerican Airlines last minute get aways--you WILL DEFINITELY find something you want. BERMUDA is on sale right now for those dates..even the 2 Fairmont Resorts on Travel Zoo! Also ROME has some incredible sales via American Try not to be angry with your FI--best thing to make a joke of it. YOU MIGHT END UP BETTER OFF IN THE END!
We're heading out on september 30 to Belize for our honeymoon. Costa Rica is another popular option.
We're going to Jamaica (Couples Swept Away) for 12 nights from September 29th through October 11th. It is hurricane season, but I read so much on the topic, and people make some good points, the Caribbean is SO vast, and all the islands are SO tiny in comparison, that the chances of there actually being a hurricane during the time you're there are slim, and the chances of that hurricane hitting the island you're on are even slimmer. Apparently, the elders in Jamaica talk about events in their lifetime happening before or after "the storm" because there has only been one to take note of in their lifetime. We also opted for the trip insurance so we're prepared. Although, the west coast of Mexico doesn't get hurricanes. But definitely get the trip insurance no matter where you go! Good luck!!
NatiSylv: you're going to LOVE St. Lucia and sandals there. there are actually 3 sandals resorts on the island and you get to us all 3 if you want and there is a shuttle that takes you to all of them. I stayed at St. Lucia Grand a few years back and it was the best vacation I've had. have fun!!!
You can probably find great deals to Hawaii right now as well. All of the hotels and travel agencies are trying to bring in visitors. Go to any of the booking engines and look at their packages (even airline sites put together packages). The downfall to Hawaii is they don't do all inclusives- so if you are looking to veg out at your hotel with great scenery and not have to worry about your bar bill or food bills all inclusives are your best bet.
hi! im not sure where you live, or if you really want to leave the states. but, i live in san diego and it is very beachy and tropical here. there are many resort areas and beach front options here to choose from, and im guessing way cheaper then hawaii. it will not be super hot here in october though, but its usually still really warm in september. you should check out some of the beach front hotels in la jolla, ca.
good luck

I've been to Cabo and it was great. For our honeymoon we are going to the same place Mrs. Penguin went: http://www.weddingbee.com/2008/06/30/excellence-playa-mujeres/

OMG! Sounds a lot like our story. LOL We're getting married on September 21st... day after yours. In FI's group of friends, as a wedding gift, they usually pull their money together to get a honeymoon goin' for the newlyweds. Well I didn't want to sound pushy and keep asking where are they sending us but I just found out a little over a week ago that it will be Cabo. I have no clue how the weather will be though but I am excited.
Ok, so I wasn't any help but maybe we'll see you guys there!
I didn't realize your wedding date is 9/20 we are date twins...who knows and maybe we'll end up being honeymoon twins!
We are going to St Lucia the first week of September. Our thoughts on hurricane season - 1.) It makes prices cheaper, 2.) we've never experienced a hurricane so if one comes it will be an adventure! I am just so excited to go on a vacation with my husband!! - I'm really not thinking about anything else :)
My fiance and I went to Belize before we were engaged for a week and it was the best trip ever!! We are really considering going back for our honeymoon because there was so much more we want to see. MissM if you have any questions please message me!
Thanks everyone for helping us out! After a bit of research this week we decided on Cabo. Although Mr. CBKJ is a procrastinator and recently started a new job that limited his vacation days - we still squeezed out a week to go. So we are going to decide on the hotel this weekend and book. Thanks again

For our honeymoon, Mr. CBKJ said that he wanted to be in control. It would be a surprise and he would take care of all the research and planning, etc. So here we are 40 days out and he has admitted that there is not a plan. We are getting married in September and are a little gun shy on going to the Caribbean because of the weather. Right now all we have is Hawaii and Mexico. I think Hawaii is crazy expensive in comparison to other options, I just don't have time to research.
Can you all help me out? Where are you going in late September and early October. I want a beach vacation, that will not require much thinking or a detailed itinerary. I just want to veg.
Please help!!
