Legally?  Why?

I can understand wanting him around to help with last minute planning/decisions/stress, but I don’t see why being married would make a difference when he’s overseas unless you think it would make him less likely to stray or something?

Ah, never mind, misread. Yeah that sucks, but really, if you read some threads about how much FI’s help with planning, you’ll be on your own anyway!

Yep, legally I don’t think it would make too much difference unless you want to go with him and apply for a visa.

@searock:  Maybe do the legal bit in a courthouse just in case and stick with your plans for the reception?

If you’ve explained your reasons to him, why is he not receptive to the idea of moving the wedding?

@searock:  Why does he say it will be harder if you’re married? I don’t understand that, but I do understand your side. Also, would he consider looking for another job? It sounds like you will be playing single mom if you two ever have kids (that’s never fun).

@searock:  and I’m really curious to know which country he is going to that you deem so unsafe?

I don’t understand the big deal? 6 weeks (a really short time!) in Europe isn’t exactly the DRC…

It might be annoying to not have him around immediately before, but I guess that almost makes it easier – just make decisions and no debating over it!
