@evelynn528:  Sorry to hear. My SO recently “lost” his ring. (i say “lost” because it got misplaced). I could see the devastation in his eyes; and I would have not minded getting him a new ring. I know he loves me, and he loves the ring due to the commitment and sentiment behind it. A ring may be lost, but the sentiment isnt. Maybe mourn the loss of the ring for a bit, and maybe you both can choose something together as a couple 🙂

@evelynn528:  even though you didn’t have a separate policy yet in place, it might be a good idea to check with your homeowners insurance? It could potentially be covered under an umbrella policy.

I lost my ring a few weeks ago. I was devastated. We looked everywhere and unfortunately never found it. It wasnt insured, but my DH is wonderful and bought me a replacement.  If the jeweler is already making you a replica, just hold tight until you can get it. I know its horrible, and I know all about losing sleep over it. But its true, you still have the guy. =)

I think that by not accepting a new ring, you’re just making a bad situation even worse.

Hopefully you can put this past you and nothing like this will happen again.

@canarydiamond:  I don’t think she’s making a bad situation worse by not accepting a new ring she said 1000 wouldn’t even cover the tax on her ring which would mean it was over 10,000$ that’s a hefty price to pay again two weeks later.

op, I’m not sure what I would do in your situation. Did you retrace ALL of your steps that day?

Wow, I know this is a morbid thought, but I would keep an eye on craigslist, put word in with all local jewelers, and also speak to all the local pawn shops. I would also file a police report. There is a good chance someone found it, and is going to try to turn a profit from it.

I am so sorry! I would accept another ring though. He probably feels really bad for you! It wasn’t your fault, it was an accident!
