I wouldn’t de-activate it yet. Maybe someone will find it. Do you have any contacts that say “home” or “if found call…”? So someone CAN track you down?

If you don’t hear anything in a couple days, I’d de-activate it.

Can you call AT&T to check if any calls have been made from your phone since you lost it?  That would be your best bet to find out if it was stolen and someone was using it or if it’s somewhere that no one has found it yet.

What I would be more concerned about is access to your email – that could give people access to your online shopping accounts, credit cards, etc. Change those passwords immediately, and if you have banking apps, change those passwords, too! If you don’t hear anything by tomorrow, deactivate it.

this just happened to me last night…except mine was stolen.  Do you have mobile me? bc if you do your can track your phone. Check if any calls have been made and if so I would call ATT and put a hold on it for now.

Do you have a moblie me account?  If you do you can it locate your iPhone and it will tell you exactly where it is as long as it is on.

Apple should have a system that will allow you to wipe your records remotely while still being able to use the call functionality. If you are concerned about a stranger getting access to your contact list and emails I suggest doing a wipe. I would continue calling the phone to see if someone picks up but my guess is they won’t return it. Sorry…

Is there any way you can fight them on this? Threater to go to a different provider?

Meliss,

I’m so sorry!  Awhile back, my husband (then FI) were at a restaurant and I got up to use the restroom.  I happened to see that someone left their iPhone in one of the stalls.  I returned it to the hostess so that in case someone realized they left it there, they could claim it.  I’m sure the person panicked when he/she realized that the phone was missing – especially since there is so much private information that could be found.  I just wish more people were honest and would turn something in if found.

I think it’s unbelievable that AT&T is treating you like the bad guy.  It seems as if they are “protecting” the thief.  And it sucks that since you didn’t “buy” the app and the MobileMe, they cannot track your phone or erase all the data.  You would think with all the money they make off these phones that those services would be included.  Just another scam on their part to make money.

I wish I did have some advice for you.  The only thing I could say is what others have already said:  change all your passwords for all your online accounts ASAP.  Please keep us updated.
