My mom and I went shopping at a local estate/antique store yesterday for antique tea cups for my centerpieces, and while we were waiting for the ladies to wrap and total everything, I noticed this absolutely. gorgeous. (supposedly) 40’s necklace in the display case. My mom was in a “buying” mood so she encouraged me to try it on, and I loved it even more. But– my wedding is in a garden in October, and my dress and veil are really simple. I was originally just going to wear a strand of pearls and a pearl bracelet. Now I want to wear this piece, but I’m worried– is it too much? Here’s my dress, on the model because I don’t have pics of me in it yet and I’m too superstitious to post them anyway!
And here’s the necklace:
I think it’s BEAUTIFUL. But I’m a little worried now it will overpower me/ my dress. What do you think?

I think this is one time where I would honestly have to see them together, instead of in different pictures. Could you put both on so we could tell? It’s hard to get a sense of the size of the pieces together.

I sort of agree — it is BEAUTIFUL, but it is definitely going to be the focus against a simple dress and veil. Maybe you could wear the pearls for the ceremony and put this on for the reception?

Oh wow…that is gorgeous. What’s the style or feel of your wedding?

I actually quite like it, I think since you have a strapless dress it would be a lovely canvas for such a necklace! Also, are you wearing earrings, or having really fancy hair? I think that neck piece would definitely be the only accesory you need!

Oh wait, I just saw your post. You won’t post pics of you in the dress. Well… hmm. This is difficult. I’d say just buy it and make sure you have a backup if you decide you don’t like it?

I can see how you say the necklace might be a bit too much, but if you decide to wear it, you really do have a good dress to wear it with. With the neckline and simplicity of your dress, I think you can pull it off.

That is GORGEOUS. I agree with LaborOfLove that it would be great to see them together, but I understand. Will it overpower? No, I don’t think so. Will it draw the eye? Perhaps. But again, it’s incredibly beautiful.

A friend of mine had a rather simple dress (no beading, crystals, etc.) and wore a necklace that was a similar shape to this (probably even larger) in all different colors. It was awesome! Everyone loved it! If you like it, go for it!

IT’S BEAUTIFUL! WEAR IT!
It’s perfect that you have a simple dress, because this will work even better! With a glitzy dress, it would look a bit over the top. Just go light on the earrings and bracelets

I think it’s a great statement piece….i’d go minimal on everything else though and let it shine!

That necklace is soo gorgeous! Wear it please!

I just have to say that that necklace is BEAUTIFUL! I literally gasped. but like everyone else has said i would have to see it with your dress on you to get the full effect! If your really not willing to post it here then i just say go with your gut. if you feel its right then it is

(Edited because it looked like “LOL”) LaborofLove– yeah, don’t ask me why, haha. I guess it’s b/c I don’t want him to see me in my dress but he doesn’t really care. I don’t trust him to stop himself 🙂
Amaryllis– That’s what I was kind of thinking, too. I’m worried that my mom will be hurt if I don’t wear it though, since it was kind of pricey.
Miss Biner– We’re having a Victorian Garden Tea Party wedding.
ToasterCat– No earrings, my hair will be part up/ mostly long loose curls down (if it holds that style at my trial).
Tulip and Miss Helen– thank you for your opinions 🙂

Tonya– that’s encouraging, thanks!
Robin and EJS– this would be the *only* piece I wore if I wore it.
Kimelaye and Osakagrl– thank you 🙂 I couldn’t take my eyes off it in the store, and I didn’t want to take it off after I got it home and took the pictures. Hence my indecision!
