I like the song-but my first reaction (as I was trying to sway back and forth to the beat, mind you :) ) was: "hmm...that does seem like an awkward song to try to dance to..." Have you tested it out? :) I'm wondering if a living room dance session is in order???! :) I do like the song though, and ultimately, what matters is that the song is right for you...you can always just opt for dancing at a pace a little bit slower than the tempo-you'll be in your own world anyway...AND, people will be concentrating on trying to figure out what you two are saying when you're whispering to eachother while you dance-they won't notice your rythm. :)
Keep us posted!
Miss B
oh goodness Miss Bravo, we have living room dance session tested...and it was awkward. :)
About 5 seconds and that was all we attempted...I guess that should have been a sign, I'm just too adamant on fixing things. "surely there is a way to de-awkward this." I'm becoming doubtful...
:) I'm at home, sick with a cold, I have time to troubleshoot...I'm listening to it again, the entire way through this time...
Hmmm...okay, I think I may be onto something :)
Try adding a spin at the point where the trumpets or whatever that instrument is that breaks in every now and then starts up...then, by the time your hubbs-to-be has you back in his arms it will be perfect timing to dance normally again...I'm thinking the kind of sway-y slow dancing that isn't as structured and continuous might work best...try living room dance session take 2! :)))) Good luck!
ok...My cousin just got married on June 5th and this song was their first dance song...it was AWESOME!!! She likes to dance...he doesn't AT ALL and they pulled it off. Maybe one of the cutest first dances ever. They did a little dip in there and a couple spins just for fun but I know they practiced a lot so that they wouldnt feel nervous. So I would stick with it if I were you..it was great!! I thought it was a really sweet first dance song! Good Luck :)
@missbravo: thanks for listening again! we will have a second (and i'm sure many following) session and try the spin moves, this should be interesting :) :) if we stick to the song, come day of we may just be extremely off tempo and have to deal with that.
@courtneycrocker: really?? yay so it is possible! :) we will keep practicing and hopefully one day it will just happen that we **appear** coordinated enough to dance to this in front of friends and family! :)
I actually really love this song, but we had already chosen our first dance song when it came out. I think you can definitely pull it off with a little pre-planning. Also, even if you're not working the choreography perfectly, your friends and family will just be happy to see you out there and happy. Have fun and enjoy, it's your day! :)
=) You won't be able to waltz, but I'm sure you'll be able to do it. If you can afford the time and money, definitely try to get into some dance classes, preferably one that specializes in weddings that will help you to come up with step combinations specific to the song. The only problem with this song is it's a little too upbeat for a waltz, but a little too slow for a jive. Maybe a foxtrot?
If you can't spring professional lessons, look to the Internet! They are clever. =)
I love that song too! I was having pretty much the same problem expect i felt our song was too slow. LOL We have chose "Like Red on a Rose" By Alan Jackson. It's a beautiful song, but very slow and while i love it am still worried that we will look awkward because its so slow. LOL so my fiance and I are going to take some lessons...we need it anyway. But that is what i would recommend to you, a professional will definitely be able to help you!
another idea: I saw on a board, not sure if it was this one or another wedding site board, but someone had that song be the last dance song. I loved that idea! It is very upbeat and not traditional like "Last Dance" which i absolutely cannot stand. But you could always think about that idea...i think we're going to do that :)
def need pre-planning :) and i would love to take some dance lessons!
We were at my parents for a family dinner and I made my sister/MOH practice with me since Fi got sudden stage fright...she and I danced to it pretty well :)
it would be a cute last dance song if we end up X-ing it as first dance.

I really like Ray LaMontagne and I love his song "You Are The Best Thing" and think it is so cute and upbeat....BUT seeing how fi and I are sooooo coordinated and awesome dancers **sarcasm** are we going to be able to pull of a dance to this tempo? Is anyone doing a fast-paced slow dance song...if that makes sense?
