I accidentally double booked myself at court, (I am a lawyer) for two cases I had up today in different counties. So I found someone else to continue one of the cases I could not attend, and they did it as a favor. The Judge would not continue it, but instead dismissed it. Had I just never double booked carelessly in the first place . . . . .Anyway, either I can undo it in a week, or have to pay to file the case all over again. Depends on what the Judge says when I explain myself. UGGGGH. I have been mad at myself all day.
Glad I found your post to vent, and I hope things go ok with your DH! :)
Oh, sorry, I guess I dont know if it will turn out ok yet, haha. I have made several other mistakes in the past that have though and Im sure your DH will be fine!
I hope the judge is nice to you about that!! When did you find out you double booked?
Once I destroyed the printer with tweezers :(! I was making signs for the office & was using a pink-colored paper. I was also taping something & the tape stuck to the paper but I didn't notice & put it in the paper tray. Then it jammed. I got out most of the paper, but there was still some stuck in the printer. I used tweezers (went to the store & bought them) since I couldn't reach & tried ripping the paper out... I figured the tape made it stick down to the roller. Well, the roller that is a part of the PRINTER was the same exact shade of pink as the paper!! So I had been *carefully* tearing up that printer piece thinking it was my paper :(. So all the pages then printed out blotchy & unusable because I killed the roller. The sad thing is I NEVER use colored paper, just white. We had to buy a new printer because it was cheaper than repairing that part.
I thought I'd be in a lot of trouble... I even offered to pay for the repair, but my boss didn't seem to mind. I still feel bad about it 3 years later...
I let my sister borrow my car to go to class one night because hers was being worked on. She left my lights on all night and my car wouldn't start the next morning. I ended up being late to work because I had to jump it (only by 10-15 minutes) and it cost me my job at the time. Lesson learned, never let anyone borrow your only mode of transportation.
the other day i took DH's work ipad as a joke when he was looking the other way petting our cat. when he turned around I and the ipad was gone. i was just being silly and started laughing. he knew i took it, so i came back into the bedroom (where he had been lying in bed using it), laughing so much that i dropped it on the floor!! the laughter stopped instantly and i kept apologizing. he wasn't mad at me obviously because he knew i didn't drop it on purpose, but i felt sooo bad and i am he doesn't want me touching it for a while.
I was scheduled to work 8 to 5, and for some reason I had it in my head that I was working 11 to 7 that day, so I was on my way to work at 10:30 when I got a call from another manager calling to see if I was coming in soon. I couldn't believe they waited 2.5 hours before calling me! I was totally mortified, I had never been more than 5 minutes late prior to that!
I forgot I worked one day. I switched the days I had off in my head. I always check my schedule before bed, but forgot to that night. Luckily I left my phone on vibrate and I heard it go off five minutes after my shift started when my boss called me. It was 5AM and I was still sleeping so it took a moment for her convince me that I did infact work that morning. When I got there she said she was scared I flew in a ditch!
@serabell: I realized it a couple days later after I did it, sometime last week. I love reading all these stories. It helps. Even when my bosses wouldn't be upset with me, I am mostly always mad at myself for what I consider dumb mistakes that I could have avoided. :-/
@Aure: Seriously, they fired you over being 10 minutes late? I'm sorry, that would suck.
@PurpleUnicorn: Did it break or anything happen to it?
@MissBoPeep: Its kinda silly they waited so long to call you when you're never late. But at least you were already on your way!
@SleepingWithNuns: You must be very punctual if they only waited 5 minutes :). Must be dangerous roads there?
@Cupcake2012: At least it was a week before you noticed, instead of like the day of! Reading other's stories brings me comfort too... as long as it works out!
& DH was just fine (while I worried the entire time he was at work, wondering what happened). He told his manager what happened & they just let it slide, not in trouble at all. Phew! I think DH was embarressed, but it all worked out!
I shredded a bunch of carbon copy booklets before I realized I hadn't ripped out the copies that needed to be sent with their corresponding invoices. Luckily our front desk still had the originals on hand, so it wasn't a total loss, but I still felt like a dumbass having to explain why I needed the originals.
@serabell: luckily it was ok, it slipped from my hands when i leaning towards the bed, so it wasn't the far from the ground and i broke its fall a bit when trying to catch, but it still hit the ground. thank goodness no damage! lesson learned though!
@serabell: yeah I'm always 30 minutes early for work. It's winter and she thought since I'm always so early and always always call if running late that I got in an accident
@serabell: Thanks, it really did suck at the time. It ended up being a blessing in disguise. My next (and current) job was much better- and it where I met FI. :)
I seriously messed up DH on a day that he had a huge presentation. That morning we were running late and he asked me to pack his bag. Big mistake. I put everything in the bag but left this plain looking note pad on the counter. Didn't even think twice about it (we have so many random notepads, post-its laying around, I don't know what's what).
Turns out that notepad had ALL of his notes for the day and he didn't realize that he didn't have it until about 30 minutes before the presentation. Luckily we don't live that far out of downtown and I was able to run home and get it, but oh man, he was so upset with me!
Needles to say I now shove anything and everything in his work bag or I ask him exactly what he wants in it.

DH gets his schedule every 2 weeks & every day his hours are different. We have an app on our phones that shares our calender info. When DH gets his new work schedule, I put it into the phone & always double or triple check to make sure I typed everything in right... except last time & I messed up :(. DH knew he had to work today, but he thought it was at 5pm, not 3pm. They just called him in & so he got there about 1.5 hours late... all cause I typed in 1 number wrong. It makes DH look bad (it was only 2.5 weeks ago they made him "permanent"). A new manager came on within the last few days so this makes it worse. I feel horrible :(. I'll find out after his shift if everything went okay...
What's something you've done wrong at work but everything turned out okay?
