I don’t know what the general feeling is about online purchasing with all of you, but I have been looking for a way to talk SO into considering some of the online retailers. I’ve read so many great experiences about them on here and the prices are fantastic. And who wouldn’t want to design their own ring?
Last night, SO mentioned he wanted to try one more store here in Houston before purchasing a ring. I looked at the website and the prices were comparable to what we had already found.
I pulled up the James Allen website (as he was looking over my shoulder) and he said “Oh wow. Those rings are really nice.” And I proceeded to tell him about their 60 day money back thing, free shipping, lifetime warranty, etc. He was really impressed. He is NOT an online shopper at ALL but once I built a sample ring and showed him that we could lower the price about $500 (and for a much higher quality diamond). “Why don’t we get it from here then?” BINGO!
Haha, I guess he needed to arrive at that conclusion on his own. His first response when we started shopping and I suggested online companies was “Absolutely not.”
So with this new found excitement, I emailed him the setting and the wedding band I picked, along with some “Can’t go wrong” specs to follow for diamond selection according to what HIS ideal budget was (much lower than the brick and mortar stores).
He may still go with a store where he can SEE the ring but I’m excited that James Allen is a possibility now. Anyone have a James Allen ring? Is the metal really that shiny in person!?
Fun waiting day. 🙂

@MissRuthie: awesome! my SO was the same way – until he realised how hard it would be to find an antique stone in a brick and mortar store (impossible!) we would have had to troll antique shows and THAT was not on.
he purchased our diamond from an online vendor and was super happy with the experience! i hope it’s as seamless for you two 🙂

@MissRuthie: My FI ordered my ring from James Allen, and I love it. FI did his research and wanted GIA paperwork with the diamond, which they do. I have had it resized a few times, and they’ve always been very helpful (and relatively quick, always less than the 2 weeks they say). We will be ordering our wedding bands from James Allen, too. I know my FI highly recommends them, and I would too!
Here’s my ring. It’s set in platinum.

My fiance bought a diamond through James Allen and it was gorgeous! However, I decided to keep the one we got from Uniondiamond only because it was a better color and clarity than the James Allen one. We returned the diamond to James Allen and had zero problems. I would def recommend either of these companies. However stay away from b2cjewels.com…they are a bit limited on the customer service.

I love James Allen and am all the way for online retailers when you have the proper knowledge in selecting a stone 🙂 Good luck to you!

@SophieB3: Oh that’s gorgeous! Thanks for posting a pic! That helps my case for SO to see real life photos!
@peonyinlove: Thank you! I fell in love with some rings when I was at an antique show last year but I knew that would be impossible to get him to come back with me lol
@Nouna_: Thank you!
Update: Last night SO and I got on some wedding conversation because I was watching Four Weddings when he got home. I made a joke about our wedding being 3 years from now. “We’re gonna be 30 when we get married!?” he asked me. I reminded him, “Well, I won’t be…but realistically, you might be. You’re turning 29 in January, remember?” and all he said was, “Man, I better get things rolling, huh?”
I just smiled.
