Hi bees! I have just over 2 weeks to find outfits for engagement photos! So far, I have 0. FI’s first outfit is a grey suit (just wearing the pants and vest) with a white shirt, grey “newsboy” hat (I know there is a real name, but I’m not sure what it is), and a bow tie (color will depend on my dress). I am looking for a 1940s/1950s inspired dress- cocktail length, full skirt, fitted top/ anything Rachel McAdams would wear in the Notebook. Here are a couple I found on ModCloth that are CLOSE, but none of them seem quite right.
Do you think I should wear one of these or can you help me find something similar? Any input is appreciated 🙂 I did not mean to havea poll, and now I can’t delete it, sorry!
Black & White polka dot dress: I LOVE the silhouette of this dress! I am nervous that it is a print (I have heard solid colors are better for e-photos), and that it is black & white/ no color.
Wine Dress: I also like the style of this dress- just not sold on the color. I don’t wear it usually and I’m not sure it will look good. I am fair-skinned (read pale Norwegian-Irish Mutt), blonde, and have green eyes.
Navy Blue: This one might be too modern with the sheer sleeves and not super full skirt. I don’t know.
Red Dress: I like this dress- I am just worried the zig zag deal at the top with skin showing through would be distracting and something with clean lines might be better. As for the color, I am a pink girl and don’t own a single piece of red clothing (I need to be more adventurous, lol). I feel like this dress is asking for red lips, but… I know FI isn’t a fan of me in red lipstick (and neither am I) so I would have pinky/more natural lips and maybe that would look weird? This also comes in Navy and Peridot green. I am thinking the green one would blend into where we are taking photos (lots of trees) but maybe the Navy would work.
For reference, we are taking our photos at Oak Alley Plantation- I am so in love with this location! Gorgeous architecture, oak trees hundreds of years old, and a garden.

HeartsandSparkles: I really love the red dress I think it will pop and look very good with the scenery And with the style you going for.

The black one and the red one are both gorgeous. I think the print of the black polka dotted dress isn’t busy enough to really cause issues – it’s a very basic print, and the cut of the dress is great.

HeartsandSparkles: I agree, the red is just fabulous!

HeartsandSparkles: I heart Modcloth! I almost bought that last one as my wedding dress (tiny wedding in a restaurant). NO polka dots (for pix), though it’s a darling dress. I honestly think that red dress would really pop, too! I like the wine dress style, but not so much the color.

This is fun…Hard to say though without seeing a picture of you or knowing your personality.
I like the wine dress, it’s sophisticated and period appropriate.
I think the polka dot is too distracting. In a photo, I would be looking at the dress and not you.
The blue and the red are more girlie. If that better suites your personality, then go for it. As a dress, I like the red over the blue.

I think the wine colored one will look fantastic! That color is great on pale skin, actually. I bet the fit and style will be super flattering… I’d order it and see what you think?
The polka dot and red lattice will be too busy/distracting in pictures, IMHO.

I love all of those dresses, honestly. The blue is my least favorite. I think the vintage burgundy one is very cool.

Wine colored one gets my vote. Timeless and classy.

HeartsandSparkles: ahh i love Oak Alley! I had no idea you were in Louisiana! Heres a website i found while looking for possible dresses for my rock themed e-party. They have adorbs dresses. http://www.pinupgirlclothing.com/vintage-style-inspired-clothing/retrodresses.html

HeartsandSparkles: I like the polka dot & the red dress alot! I actualy really enjoy patterns & colors in e-photos way more than solids. I wore a blue sweater with a plaid pink shirt underneath and my favorite part of my outfit looking at the pics were the tiny peeks of that plaid and made me wish I had been more brave with my wardrobe… I think the polka dot is a little more casual, while you could really play up the red dress with sparkly accessories for a more “night-out” type of look…

Chaedra: gillykat824: BurlapnLace: Thank you ladies! I think I am going to order the red one to try on!
jamb: That makes sense- here is a photo for reference- tried to find a full body shot with a dress. This is over a year ago, so I have lost 10 pounds since then. I am DEFINITELY a girly girl!! Pink and sparkle are my two favorite colors!
