@Soon2BeeMrsG:  I hear you punkin…I get blue too…it happens.  And before I got married, my cure for the blues was a long swim in my bathtub with the cat lounging on the edge..dipping her tail daintily in the water…

That was five years ago…

I have not been able to take a bath without interruption in FIVE YEARS.

If it isn’t Mr. 99 barging in to ask me what I’m doing, if I’m ok, how long I’m going to be, if I like peas, where the toaster oven is and do you think this is in ingrown toenail…

It’s my stepdaughter, sneaking in to sit on the floor and talk to me about all the stuff she can’t talk to me about while she’s sitting on the counter in the kitchen, taking up vaulable real estate with her ass, or while she lays in our bed watching me at my vanity putting on my makeup and doing my hair, or when we’re in the car…I guess there are some things in this life, that you just need a pane of frosted glass between you and your Mom to talk about…or

One of the dogs will come floundering in, totally panic striken, wild eyed and sliding across the tile floor a la Bambi on the ice and slam into the wall, totally discombobulate the cat, wreak havoc, chaos, break a trash can and fly out of there like wounded deer and all because the MGM Lion roared at the beginning of a movie downstairs and startled him…that was peaceful.

I could keep going, but you get the idea…it used to make me insane, and my quest in life, aside from being a generally good person who pays their bills and avoids lying was to take a nice, relaxing, tranquil bath…JUST ONCE!  I would get so angry, and frustrated and just depressed because I couldn’t have this one thing, just ONE thing for me…and I was complaining to my Mom about it and she cleared that all up in one brief statement:

“Nona, there are people who literally drown in lonliness, and wonder if there will ever be a person that just wants to be near them because of who they are….and you dear girl, have a heart and soul that draws people to it, like steel to a magnate, you are the woman that they seek out, to feel comfort and happiness and solace and love, complaining about that, would mean you’re a bitch, and I know I didn’t raise one of those.”

So now, whenever I’m wearing all three dogs like underwear while trying to fold a load of laundry around my kid’s ass as she sits on the washer and asks me how I knew I was going to marry her Daddy and Mr. 99 comes traipsing into an already crowded space to wrap his arms around me and ask where his favorite shirt is….I just smile, because while it may get a little crowded…it’s nice to be so loved.

^ That has changed my life, even if just a little bit. It’s an important thing to remember.

@Nona99:  I just love your response.  Love what your mom said. Everyone you know is so witty (or you remember everyone as being witty).

@Soon2BeeMrsG:  I hope you’re feeling better!  I get blue on occassion, too. Sometimes for good reason and sometimes for no reason.  But I start counting my blessings and it takes the edge off.  I hope you ended up having a great day!

When I start feeling sorry for myself, I remember that there are women in this world who are still treated like 3rd class citizens in 1st world countries.  That I don’t have to feel bad about the colour of my skin, even though no one ever should. That I’m not gay so I won’t know what it’s like to get picked on, beaten up or treated like shit because I  love someone that happens to be of the same sex.

That me and my family aren’t wondering where our next meal is going to come from, and that I know what clean water tastes like.  That I have shoes on my feet and clothes on my back. I have a roof over my head, a husband that loves me, a daughter that idolizes me probably more than she should, a dog to keep my toes warm, 2 cats to keep me entertained, friends who love me, and a glass of wine to relax me.

These things put shit in perspective for  me. And let me tell you, today was a shitty day, and I’m having trouble remembering these things.  I’m glad you asked this question/posted this, because it forced me to realize I don’t have it that bad, no matter how much today sucked.
