So my cake will be three layers with a buttercream and then fondant outside… Our top layer is devil’s food, and the second is red velvet (my baker makes an awesome rv!). But we decided on german chocolate but without the coconut. FI doesn’t care for it and I said that’s the whole point of that cake lol. So then i got to thinking what do I get as our third flavor? I thought birthday cake might be fun but I don’t know what frosting it would go with… what are some flavors yall would like to eat in a cake or do you have any cool flavor ideas?

We had a white cake with fresh raspberry filling, It was everyones favorite. 🙂

My current favorite is lemon cake with raspberry filling. I definitely think you should do something a little lighter.

Are you not keeping the top layer of Devil’s Food cake for later?
I’d get something not so heavy. Red Velvet and Devil’s Food… man, those are serious cakes. Maybe you could get something like lemon cake with fresh rasperries in buttercream.
As for the German chocolate thing… does your FI realize he’s not going to eat every type of cake and that you’re trying to make sure there is something for everyone? I wouldn’t double up the chocolate’s though, esp. since there’s also a bit of cocoa in Red Velvet too.

Agreed that a lighter cake like lemon or just plain white with a fruit filling sounds like a nice balance, particularly since it looks like your wedding is in August, when people might not be so inclined to eat heavier stuff. (And that’s coming from a chocolate freak; I think you should have something chocolate-free.)

we did white cake with choclate filling and white cake with strawberries. we also had choclate with strawberry filling. pink chapagne with strawberry french cream on top.

all these ideas sound great… yeah i do want a lighter flavor, the red velvet and the devils food is our favorite and also the smaller tiers. So the biggest one is for the masses lol.

How about doing a lighter layer. Those two layers are very rich and heavy. Ours will be two layers of red velvet and one layer of strawberry. Super yum! The strawberry layer is going to taste awesome with the cream cheese buttercream!

Well, we are planning on cupcakes, but if we change our mind, these will be our flavors:
Chocolate with mousse filling
French Vanilla with raspberry filling
and Pumpkin or Spice with cream cheese filling

I had a fantastic “cherry blossom” cupcake from Georgetown cupcake earlier this year. It was essentially a vanilla cake with fresh cherries baked into it, and cream cheese frosting. I think it would be lighter than your other flavors, but not a total veer in the opposite direction like a lemon cake would be.

We have a four tier cake and are doing different flavours throughout as well! We have chosen vanilla with strawberry filling, swirl (chocolate & vanilla) with chocolate mousse, lemon with raspberry filling and almond with peanut butter mousse! We clearly like variety and wanted it for our guests! 🙂
