@regberadaisy: I think it is the like a white elephant exchange where people can "steal" gifts after they are opened but unlike a white elephant exchange, the gifts are not supposed to be gag gifts.
OP - How about making somekind of a small basket? Like a movie basket with a couple of movies, a few bags of popcorn, candy, etc? Or a wine basket with a couple wine bottles, a fun bottle stopper, and a wine bottle cooler?
Or maybe a fun board game or two? A nice bottle of whatever type of alcohol your family prefers?
@regberadaisy: I think it's the same as a white elephant. Everyone around here just calls it a different name, I guess. And they are sometimes gag gifts, but almost always with a good gift (like a gift card) hidden somewhere on it.
@Mrs.KMM: I had been thinking about doing a movie basket, and I am pretty sure I am going to do a hot chocolate one, as well. It's hard to think of good ideas for the men in my family, though. This is the first year we are doing it this way (we usually do Secret Santa), so I'm thinking it will end up more like a "Liqour exchange" knowing my family.
Once I did a box of those little chocolates filled with liquor and a few lottery tickets...........the gift was grabbed so many times I lost count! They were under $20 and I think I found them at Sams club.
We do that with my family too. This year I got Mad Men Season 1 and 2 on DVD and I'm going to include 2 cheap martini glasses and some cocktail mix.
Last year I did the Starbucks travel mug with the hot chocolate mix.
This year I am thinking of regifting something I got from last year white elephant which was a Christmas cake plate and serving knife with possibly a voucher for some homemade goods at a later date.
I really wanted to get the M&M dispenser for this year exchange because it is so cute but our limit is $5. So hard to get something for under $5.
@MrsMcGyro: Thank you for the idea! My husband and I love Modern Family and I think seasons 1 & 2 would make a great gift!
@bree72: Especially if it's for a FAMILY swap. It would be super cute! You could include some popcorn and cocoa too.

I have 2 Chinese gift exchanges this year with families, but with my husband, that make 4 presents we need to purchase. Two of them are $20 limits, and two are $50 limits. We always end up buying gift cards and Maglights, so I was hoping to come up with something creative this year.
Anyone have any great ideas? I don't know why it's always so difficult to think of things, and I refuse to buy stuff people won't use. If I get stuck with another Snuggie I will hit someone. :)
