I feel like I will never find the dress!!! I got engaged in February and started dress shopping shortly after. At first, I was just casually looking but now, I feel like it's time to finally make the purchase and I have yet to find one that is perfect. Part of it is I probably have too many criteria:

I want something non-strapless (not spaghetti straps either) and I don't like beading (although I loove lace detailing, especially alencon lace, which is of course the most expensive). The kicker is, my budget is strictly under $1000 and preferably under $500. I am totally willing to buy something used, but I tend to love the designer gowns that are still well over $1000 even used.

I literally have not found one gown in my budget that I loved. There were several that were okay, but I want to feel excited and giddy about my dress! On the other hand, I am not willing to spend over $1000 on a dress I will only wear one day (we just can't afford it).

Did any of you wear a non-strapless dress and spend under $1000? If so, I'd love to see pictures!!! I have tended to like mermaid style dresses and sweetheart necklines, but I'd love to see any and all of your non-strapless dresses...and if you can give me the designer name and style, you may just be my dress hero!!!!

    Thanks soo much

The sweetheart neckline and straps might be able to be added when you get it altered relatively cheaply if you've found ones in other styles that just need to be perfected.

I may be missing something, but if you got married in July, why are you still looking?  What is the July 31, 2009 date?

@Aileen: I spent under $1000 on my non-strapless lace dress (see below).  It's a Mon Cheri and it's a few years old, but they made one this year that is similar if you look at their current collection.

Also, if you search the boards, there are a few threads on "designers under 1000" which I believe include Casablanca, Jasmine Bridal, Mori Lee, Maggie Sottero, etc.

hotchild: I love that dress; there is one I tried on that is very similar to that here @ our bridal shop. I just found out it went on sale last week! I'm going back to look again! Aileen I don't know where you are looking or if your from a busy area; but I would recommend visiting smaller botiques in smaller towns around you. There are lots of places around here in Ohio that carry many dresses well under $1,000. Definatly check out Mori Lee. They have really nice dresses & are pretty reasonable. Also Romantic Bridal; forever yours are a couple others I've liked dresses in.

Haha it is a typo supposed to be 2010 :) I just changed it. I am in Seattle and I feel like I've looked everywhere. If you're familiar with the area, I've been to Pearls and Lace, I Do Bridal, Cynderellie's Closet, Victoria's Bridal Couture, and La Belle Elaine's.

@hotchildinthecity, that is a really pretty dress. The straps and neckline are pretty much exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks!

    Keep them coming...please!

Find an expensive dress you love and then see if you can find it used!

Yeah, I have been checking preownedweddingdresses, oncewed, and bravobride religiously. I have found some that I love, but even used, the prices are well over $1000.

Examples of some of my favorites:

    http://www.preownedweddingdresses.com/dresses/9716/Alvina-Valenta-AV9662-Size-6.html

    http://www.bravobride.com/ItemViewer.php?iid=%27alvina-valenta-wedding-gown-20541%27

Both still well over $1000--plus I'd have to get them altered :(

My dress was under $1k, but only off the rack   Menorca by La Sposa by Pronovias   (bateau)  off the rack is probably the way to go

this ia an informal shot and doesn't do it justice...the detail is awesome!

You might want to branch out from the Seattle area.  I went to Elegant Bride in Tacoma and Charlotte's in Portland.  Also check out Belltown Bride.

My dress was a Sophia Tolli for less than $1000 from Charlotte's.

I just ordered my dress a few weeks ago and its by Maggie Sottero. I spent exactly $1050 but maybe your taxes are cheaper. Its alencon lace and some beading. http://www.maggiesottero.com/dress.aspx?style=a3196lu

Oh my goodness, I so feel for you. I searched and searched and searched for a gown and just couldn't get what I wanted. Ah, the curse of expensive taste! Finally I settled on a Casablanca sample dress, which ended up being about $700. I loved it the first time I tried it on but I talked myself out of it because it had some issues that didn't seem worth the helfty cost of altering them. Then, months later, when I was totally depressed I went back to the store, tried it on again, and decided it was meant to be.

The only advice I can give is to not force a decision on yourself, because it will only backfire. You still have a little time before you have to order one, so take a bit of a break and then go back to shopping with fresh eyes. Also understand that there are always going to be differences between less expensive and more expensive dresses and you just have to figure out if you will ever be happy with a dress of a somewhat lower quality, or, at the same time, if you will feel forever guilty about spending way more money than you should.

Just don't settle for something you don't love!

I think Mrs. DG is right if your willing to go south/north of Seattle you might have more luck. I know people that have looked at Demetrios in Bellevue and Weddings with Joy in Oly. The Princess Bride in Bothell has a lot of dresses too. I actually got my dress from Something Blue in La Connor. It's a Amy Kuschel and I just love it.

I am like you, I have a small budget, I want something with straps, but not spaghetti, and I want lace, no beading. I tried on the Watters 'Harmony' dress and loved it a lot, but it is 1900 in the store. So, I've spent the last week and a half on line looking everywhere! I finally came across www.netbride.com. They look totally legit, I called them the other day and the dress brand new from Watters will be 900. Definitly check that website. They don't list all the dresses on their website, which is a bit of a pain, but call the number on the website to get a quote from them on a dress that you like! :)
