MsGinkgo:  We are going to serve crockpot hot cocoa on Christmas Eve. Google and there are a bunch of recipes! Not sure if you want alcohol – but we’re going to have peppermint schnapps, etc. to add to your hot cocoa if you want, or non-alcoholic for my pregnant cousin and nephew.

A hot cocoa bar would be fun! Have some basic hot cocoa and a bunch of add-ins. Marshmallows (differnt flavors?). peppermint (sticks? extract? crushed pieces?). Cinnamon. Whip cream. Nutella. Peanut butter. Sprinkles. flavored syrups. spices for mexican hot chocolate.

Other ideas… mulled wine. hot apple cider. hot toddy. hot tea – so many varities! chai, holiday blends, earl grey, etc etc. Chai lattes.

MsGinkgo:  What about spiced cider with different alcohol that people can add to theirs. Throw cider in a crock pot with cinnamon sticks, cloves, etc (can just get mulling spice packets as well). Put out bottles of dark rum, spiced rum, GM/Cointreau, applejack, brandy/cognac, butterncotch schnapps, etc…. You can also do this with a good quality hot chocolate, all of the above plus peppermint schnapps, stuff like that.

I’m also partial to hot buttered rum but they’re insanely fattening and most people only want one. Martha Stewart has a great recipe.

MsGinkgo:  Not sure if anyone said it yet but Eggnog! You can serve it hot too and then do different toppings like other people have been suggesting. I dont eat dairy or eggs so here is a vegan recipe for it: 1 cup pecans, 4-5 cups water, 1 cup dates, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1 teaspoon nutmeg, and 2 teaspoons of vanilla. If you want it hot just make the water you add in hot water. Just put it all in a blender and voila! Thats enough to serve about 4 people. Then as toppings or “add-ins” you could do whipped cream, nutmeg, cinnamon, cinnamon sticks, and so on 🙂

Love the ideas for hot cocoa bar (w/ peppermint schnapps, kahlua and vodka options next to the whipped cream & toppings). Also a huge fan of spiced eggnog (first stir nutmeg & cinnamon into 1 oz of water or rum, then add the nog). Mulled apple cider is awesome too w/ rum.

MsGinkgo:  Midori melon liquor in hot chocolate. Sounds bizarre but it’s amazing.
