Okay, so I am currently trying to grow my hair out. But I really need to cut some shape into it. I have an appointment tomorrow after work, but have NO idea what to do with it. Currently, my hair looks like someone just took a ruler and cut straight accross. It is all excactly one length, has absolutely no shape, and looks so blah about 97% of the time.
I don’t really want to cut off more than an inch or so, since I am trying to grow it out. Do you ladies have any ideas as to what may look good? Pictures? The only thing I can think of is some sort of layers, but I dont know much about hair.
I included a picture of what I look like right now (I just blurred out my features, but tried to leave enough that you could get a feel for my face shape). Remember, I don’t want to go much shorter than this. I just want some shape.

Mods… maybe this can be moved to Beauty?

This might require cutting off more than you intend, but I think it would suit your face shape.
Alternatively, this would allow you to keep the length, and it would frame your face quite nicely. Just look at the hair style and try to ignore the model’s collagen-addled lips.
This is a more realistic variation of it, and with a shorter bang.
You have the length for a lot of layers. Find some pictures you like and show them to your stylist.

Seriously, I think your hair looks perfect as is, I wouldn’t cut it other than a trim. It looks like you have fine hair, so I don’t think layers will suit. If I had your hair I would just play around with curling waves and straightening it for a new look. Many women that regret their layers would kill to have hair all the same length.
If anything, you could ask the hairdressor to feather your hair down the sides at the front for a bit of movement. I have long blonde hair and that is all I get done. You will end up with a bit of layering at the front like this:
And you can put some curl and wave into your hair like this:
Sorry for the huge photos!

@LeonardLady: Ask for long layers with a few layers in the front that are chin-length to accentuate your face. Don’t do full-on bangs unless you’re willing to style them regularly.

@beachbride1216: +1 That’s exactly what I was thinking.

@Claire324: I have NEVER learned how to successfully curl/wave my hair 🙁 I can do the right side, but I can’t do the left very well (because I’m left handed and have a non-clamp wand, so I have to twirl with my left hand) and I can’t do the back at all! I didn’t get that girl trait :/ I don’t get how girls are so good at this. But I do really really like how Jen’s hair is looking in the curly picture.
@beachbride1216: I would never do regular/straight accross bangs. I think they would look horrific on me! haha. I feel like only a very small percentage of people actually look good with those bangs, and I don’t feel like I’m in that minority! haha

I’d just have some layers cut in. I have finer hair and it really adds volume and shape to my hair.
Most of my pins are for longer hair but here are a few:

@CorvusCorax: I love the style in the first picture!

@LeonardLady: It’s called face-frame layers. I get that style all the time! I love it 🙂

I agree with @beachbride1216: and @Westwood: I think you should go for long layers! It really does help to add volume and shape!! My long layers are in a soft V shape. The shape it gives is amazing because I really don’t have to do anything with my hair for it to look good. I like the shortest layer to be an inch or two below my chin. I have an oval face (it looks like you do too?) and the layers help to slim down my face sooo much. It’s super flattering.
