Why is having it all planned by November important? Is it because of the timelines you’ve seen? Are you planning to have everything done or just the big things? (Big things, definitely go ahead and work on, but if you plan to have everything done you’re stressing yourself more than necessary).

I think those timelines are great guidelines, but not deadset rules. I booked my venue 7 months out, dress was 6 months out, flowers are yet to be finished (but I’m DIYing those), not having a DJ, our photographer was booked 4 months out. What can I say? I’m a risktaker, lol.

Got engaged in May last year, bought my dress in October, photography on New Years (we won a contest!), flowers are being done by a family friend who is a florist…still need to finalize flowers, cake still needs to be sorted and we don’t think we’ll have a DJ. But one of our guests offered to DJ if we didn’t find anyone we liked.

I usually don’t follow a timeline, I just picked out what I thought was the most important and did those first.  Definitely book the venue first, find a photographer & shop for your dress!

My bridesmaids were lazy and I had to choose a dress that I told them they could choose whatever (maybe if I had more responsible BM’s it wouldn’t have been a disaster, lol). But they all ordered their dresses by late may/early June. Too close for my comfort but if yours do this a month or two before my girls did it, you should be fine.

@pinkcrush:  I was just curious if there were going to be other things putting crazy pressure on you after November (not that wedding planning isn’t enough!). You can do it!

  • Wedding: September 2012

I’m also an NC bride.  I got engaged in July of 2011, booked the venue in March 2012, cake/photos May 2012, dress Feb 2012, and we are self catering.  (Our wedding is this September) I think your timeline depends on what you are comfortable with.  If you aren’t in state a lot, its definitly easier to get on the calendar sooner and make sure that you can get appointments when you are in state. I think it depends on what area you are looking for venues in, how big they are and how popular they are.
