I think you can send the STD's as soon as you know your wedding date. I know typically it is about 9 months prior, but I have gotten one even earlier before. Just make sure you only send them to people that you are 100% inviting to the wedding.
I sent min in October 07 for an August 08 wedding.
My one regret is that I sent them to my WHOLE guest list - and ended up adding several more people later we had forgotten. We then needed to make a B list, out of these new add ons we'd over looked. Because I had already sent them an STDs to the first guest list, I HAD to invite them to the wedding and some close people are B listed....I'm awaiting No's to send the B list invites out.
I think I sent mine a bit early I could have waited at least a another month possibly 2.
WELL I KNOW MY DATE FOR THE WEDDING ALREADY! BUT I DIDNT KNOW IF I SHOULD WAIT! MY WEDDING IS UNTILL JUNE 27TH. OF 2009 SO I DUNNO IF ITS TOO SOON TO SEND THE STD'S!
Keep in mind that if you send them too early, you're bound to inviting those people to the wedding (because if you send a save-the-date, you have to send an invite). I sent mine out in February for a September 2008 wedding, and I wish I hadn't sent it to a few people!
I sent mine in January for my August wedding, but as soon as I knew my date I called a few long-distance friends and relatives so they could start making plans. I didn't want to send them out before the new calendar year since mine were stickers for the calendar! It worked well and I have no guest list regrets. We did end up adding a few people who didn't get STD's but that doesn't bother me!
I DONT KNOW WHEN TO ACTUALLY SEND THEM! HOW FAR AHEAD OF THE WEDDING DO YOU USUALLY SEND THE "SAVE THE DATE" CARDS?

I've always heard to send them out 6 months ahead of time.
I wanted to do STDs but the guestlist just got bigger and bigger I decided if i don't send them. perhaps less will come.
