Ladies I need your help. Here's the story: I moved to Kentucky a few years ago from NY. So my family is still up there. I come from a big italian family so for the wedding, FOOD and ALCOHOL(im talking open bar: I know its a lot of $$, im going to go broke) are very important but its friggen expensive!! ( If you have ever seen the movie "my big fat greek wedding" Thats my family!! I don't know where to have the reception without going broke. I want a beautiful simple wedding and If I could have the whole thing outside I would but its just too much work and too hot for July. I am either looking for a hall where I can "bring my own caterer " One that has a beautiful out door area as well(for the kids to play outside) Some place thats looks decent, I don't mind going all out on decorations  to make the place look nice as long as I am saving else where. It would be great if I could have the wedding there too right now I am planning on having the wedding at garden court( I thought about having the reception there but you can't bring outside vendors and they don't allow liquor to be served, I don't know why)

So If anyone can help me I would be greatly appreciative, location of the venue doesn't matter, just nothing too far from Louisville. But at this point I am open to anything.

@jsawedding21: You know, my family hails from Pittsburgh. They are Italian, and they are EXACTLY like the family on MBFGW! And alcohol is expected at every wedding. You know what? It was too expensive for us, so we aren't offering any. We ARE ending the reception early-ish, so that if they want drinks, the restaurants are still open and they can get a drink or two. The restaurants are within walking distance of the banquet hall AND the hotel, so I think it'll work out. And honestly, they're family. They'll still love you, even if you don't offer your own alcohol. Just do what's feasible for you. Don't commit to something beyond your means. Trust me, it'll be hell for you if you do... it's not worth going into debt for ONE DAY of your life. The most important part about that day is the fact that you'll be getting married!!!! RELISH IT. :)

Your situation is a lot like mine (Italian, bringing in own caterer and alcohol/open bar), except the LARGE guest list is coming from my fiance rather than me :)  We are looking at appx 300-350 ppl.  What I have found is that most places that can accomodate more than 200 ppl require you to use their caterer and alcohol-which becaomes VERY pricey!  We are having our reception at Bowman Field in an airplane hanger.  They allow you to do WHATEVER you want.  Only thing is that you have to have licensed bartenders serving.  To rent the space is more expensive than others but we felt like we could save by bringing in and using the vendors we wanted.  You have the option of renting out the whole hanger or only half (we are going with half). Decorating options are endless from extrvagant to simple.  You can also have the ceremony there as well.  Not sure about the otisde part for the kids - but you could probably rent a bouncy or something?

    Hope this helps!
