Have you considered using fresh fruit? You could use citrus and flowers combined for something cheap and easy, but oh-so bright!
I saw an awesome picture with orange slices in a square jar with pink and green flowers. It was really cute. It was in one of my bridal mags. I will have to see if I can find it online. But it was really cute. Do you have a theme?
You could also use lime slices or even I saw one that used asparagus stocks stood up against the walls of the vase and then flowers on top.
If you're going to use citrus, you need to make sure your flowers aren't in the same water at the citrus. It kills them! I learned this today at a flower arranging class. Citrus is really bad for flowers, so if you're doing them DIY and you need to do them ahead of time, citrus might not be the way to go, unless you can use a vase that would allow you to put the flowers in some sort of plastic clear container at the top...so that they don't share water.
KateMW good point. I meant to write that time for bed for me.. We did this at a friends and just placed the flowers in a separate jar inside the outer vase.
Yeah, I've seen the citus slices in an "outside" vase, and the flowers in a clear vase nested inside. Good call, KateMW!
This is the woman who taught the class today and I've heard her books are really good and EASY.

I would love do my own centerpieces and pay someone to set it up for me. I do have a small budget to work with. My colors are tangerine, lime, and fushia! I like the idea of using old vases, curly willow branches, and peacock feathers or anything really....I just ideas on how to save money and be able to do it myself! I love the rustic and unique look.
