    Hey guys,

FI and I just started P90X this week and we are enjoying it.

I have done it once before but in the 6th week I got really sick and just couldn't get back into it afterwards. I did it alone that time and so it will be good to do it with FI this time.

Anyone out there doing the program and want to be buddies? Talk about all of challenges and successes?

Me and my FI are currently doing P90X. We have been doing it for about 2 weeks now. We really got into it, and was halfway through when we both got the flu. (Flu season) And never made it back to it, so we started it again. I will be your P90x Buddy!

Random question... Do you guys take the supplements with it? I'm all for healthy diet and exercise, but I really, really don't like the creatine, etc., that's recommended. Can it work successfully without it?

I don't take any supplements and have been seeing results, my FI takes protien power and just regular vitamin packs. I say that mostly its a healthy eating, regular diet thing. I am very wary of the supplements.. generally because they are never FDA approved and I don't like putting stuff in my body that I don't really know much about.

    Yay for buddies!

How do you guys want to do it - as a daily check-in on a weekly thread?

I find that I like daily check-in's better than weekly as I am held more responsible that way.

Every week I will post a thread on Monday's titled "P90X Buddies (Date)" and we can do our daily check-in's there.

    I will start - Day 2:

I technically started today, FI started yesterday and I am joining in with him; however, I did do spinning and a legs, back and biceps workout yesterday so I wasn't slacking.

Today I did plyo - it was KILLER after my legs workout yesterday but it felt so good. I love plyo because it really kicks my butt. Mr. M is fit but doesn't do a lot of cardio and so he struggled a bit.

We want to get onto the proper weekly schedule and so we are going to be taking Sunday off (or doing the stretch) so that we can start the second week on Monday.

@3M - When are you going to start? Is your FI going to do it with you?

@Teaserama - What day are you guys on? Did you just start this week?

    @Alicia - I don't do the supplements!

It is a great fitness routine and so you can do it without all of that junk. I am a kinesiologist and I believe that you can get everything you need from a healthy balanced diet. We both take a multivitamin daily to fill in any gaps in the diet (and because I need extra Iron and B12 due to anemia). FI and I are trying to eat clean but we do not use all of the supplements and protein powders etc. FI does have a meal replacement shake because he is trying to gain weight and cannot consume enough calories but that is about it!

We technically started Last week but I missed a few days due to being sick from my period. Undecided

Today I did plyo w/ my Fi. He is so much more physically able to do this. I usually have to take longer breaks than he does. But I am getting through them. I am really hating that I live on the 3rd floor of an apartment building.

Since I missed a few workouts when I get home I will be doing the shoulder and arm workouts so I am on the correct day.

The hardest thing for me is the diet. I am not over weight by any means, just a little soft in some areas.

I am 5'10 and about 135 pds. I want to be lean and a little bit cut w/ still some soft feminity.

I really don't like giving up my sour cream and soda. Are you going to do the diet also or just the excerise?

Ya the apartment thing sucks. I am sure you are worried about bothering your neighbours and trying to jump softly LOL! Well at least you are supposed to jump softly anyway.

We want to follow the diet, I won't do the 2 week of high protein though - I did it once and I had the worst abdominal pain from gas I have ever felt! Sorry if TMI. I actually can't find the nutritional guide right now and so we are just trying to eat clean (everything from scratch and the way nature intended - no processed crap) until I can find the guide.

Yeah the people below us have moved out, so noise isn't a real big issue. Its after you workout your legs and have to climb 3 flights of stairs w/ groceries. Bleh...

We are trying to stick to the diet, eating healthy and from scratch isn't a too big of a deal. Its just trying not to eat my "guilty pleasures" sour cream and soda and beer. We are doing a lot of lean protien, steamed veggies and water. But sometimes after a really hard workout I just want a beer. I have all the info on the diet things, if you PM w/ your email address I can send it to you when I get home if your interested. I like the daily check up because it keeps me more focused.

My FI is big into P90x but his doctors recommend him not being as lean as he was in full swing. We started eating healthy Jan 4 and since then I've lost 20 pounds, with intermitten exercises. Work keeps us busy and it's not as easy to fit an hour workout in after work... ab ripper definitely helps keep us in the groove though! Here's to another 20 pounds! :0)

    Witz    August 2010

I'll be a p90x buddy!  My FI and I are doing the lean program and just started the third week yesterday (Tuesdays are the first day in our weeks so that we can rest on Mondays).

I hate to admit this about myself, but there is absolutely no possible way that I would be doing this without my FI because I simply don't have the discipline to work out 6 days a week when I get home from work.  The great thing about doing it together, though, is that he really pushes me to hurry up, get ready and get started when I get home from work.  If it weren't for that, I could see myself losing motivation and not doing it.

We don't do any supplements or recovery drinks or anything, but my FI does do protein shakes most days (but he did those before anyway).  I just try to eat a high protein and low carb diet... I am pretty good most of the time, but I could be way better.

I have quite a bit of weight to lose (if possible, I'd ideally like to lose about 38 lbs. over the next five months), and I have already lost about 6 lbs. in the last two weeks that we've been doing p90x (lean).  I am starting to tell the difference in my midriff and back already for sure.  And as far as my ability to do all of the exercises with good form, I am still very much a work in progress, but we have both come WAY far on that.  It feels so awesome to know that already, in just two weeks, that I am stronger than I was starting out.  I am hooked!

My biggest concern at this point is how to avoid being p90x dropouts.  It seems like a lot of people get a ways in and then something messes with their schedule (illness, travel, etc.) and they're not able to get back into the groove.  Does anyone have any advice on how to avoid that???

Well no real advice on not being a drop out. Since I am one... lol. But I do advise you to not exercise to extremely when you are sick. And I mean really sick.. (serious flu, stomache bug) I would take vitamins daily, eat well and wash your hands before you touch your face, eyes, mouth, ears.. anything like that. And just to always make time, if you are going on vacation. Promise yourself even if you do not do the week of P90, that you will devout 20 minutes of some good cardio. If you do this, then you will be better off in returning to P90x.

@alisha - wish I had before and after photos to show you but I am only on Day 2 so you will have to wait 88 days to get the after LOL. I hope you join our buddy group when your P90x arrives!

@Witz - yay another buddy! Sounds like you are doing well so far! Congrats! I can't help you with the drop out thing as I am one!!!!! I think having a tangible goal date (aka the wedding) helps with motivation when doing a crazy program like this because you really want to see results by that day. I hope it will be my motivation to keep going none the less!

We are in our second week!  Tonight we have arms/shoulders and ab ripper x.

I have actually really enjoyed it so far!  We do an p90x and then we go to the gym and do the elliptical for an hour everynight for the last two weeks.

I would love to be p90x buddies on the Bee.  It'll help me stick with it and be accountable.  Not that my FI would let me stop, he gets really excited to do it everynight.

I am not drinking the supplements or taking creatine or anything like that.  I am trying to modify my diet and eat more protein and that seems to be helping.

I wish I noticed this before I just posted about P90X buddies! (Well I may not have mentioned that in the post YET.... but I was getting there after I found out if people were interested.) Anyways :) .... Can I join you and be a P90X buddy? I need support this time around! I'm planning on starting this Saturday.

@alishadhs4: I believe I ordered mine from Amazon... but I was just noticing some P90X sets listed in the Classifieds for Weddingbee and they were listed at only like $50... Might be worth checking out! :) You could also check craigslist!

I'll be a P90X buddy!  My FI and I are on day 6 and I am really enjoying it so far!  He really wanted to get in shape before the wedding, and I am excited about having toned arms and back for my dress!  I agree with many of you that having a workout buddy to do this with you is helpful!

We are not doing supplaments, but we did buy some Clif Recovery drink mix (cheaper than the P90X stuff).  I have done marathons before, so I have learned the benefits of doing some sort of replenishment drink after a hard workout to keep from getting sore!  (We have the mango flavored Clif mix and I add some pomagranate juice to mine to make it taste better).

I just called the 800 number on the infomercial and they offered it to be for 155 incl. shipping and tax, and so i said forget it, then ten minutes later i got a call back saying they could sell it to me for 119 including shipping and tax :)

BTW, i ordered it off ebay yesterday and it turned out to be a scam and the listing was removed right after i paid for it. I was able to cancel the payment, but i will have to wait a few days to be refunded by paypal...kind of a hassel, but im glad i was able to be refunded so just watch out.

@alishadhs4: Funny about them calling you back. Apparently they want your business! I had a vendor do that to me a few months ago... it was too late for them by the time they called me back! Out of curiosity, did you end up ordering it from them?

Yay for more buddies - hopefully the team motivation will help us all stay on track and not be (repeat for some) P90X drop outs.

@alisha - wow that is rough. I ordered mine from BeachBody but that was a few years ago now so I don't know how much I paid.

Today I did Day 3 this morning - Shoulders and arms and it felt good but I think I need some in between weights. I use 5's, 10's and 15's but I would really like to have some 8's and 12's for smaller increments.

I am going to go to spinning tonight after work to get some cardio in and then do Ab ripper x when I get home!

What size weights do you guys use?

I got my DVD set off of Craigslist for $45...didn't want to pay full price in case I didn't stick with it...lol! I am doing well with it...currently on week 7.

I can definitely tell I am gaining muscle mass. I was wondering if anyone adds an additional Cardio along with each day's workout? And if they were having quicker results?

I have heard about intensity- the new program from Beach Body. Only 45 minutes of exercise and results in 30 days? Too good to be true?

@Tilapia - I am going to do spinning on the weight days to get some extra cardio in. I just started so I don't know if it will help with the results but before I started this I was on a 6 day a week cardio and weights regimen and so I want to keep my cardio up!

@Buds - Insanity looks amazing! I would try it! It uses your own body weight as resistance which is a lot harder than using weights (you can't slack off because you can't go down in weight). If I have some cash after we finish this 90 days I will consider buying insanity but I doubt we will have extra cash 2 months before the wedding :-(

@Future Mrs. Martin: thanks! I quit spinning and all my extra cardio while doing the program, but feel that if I coupled it with extra cardio I will get better results. I am going to step it up this week and add back Cardio at least on the weight training days and see how I feel. Keep up the good work! Smile

    How did everyone do today!

I did Kenpo today (Day 4) - I know that that doesn't follow the plan.

We work out in the morning and so we have a time constraint and an hour and a half of Yoga does not fit in our time and so we have switched Kenpo with Yoga.

I love Kenpo. I find it really easy and fun; however, I do have a black belt in Karate so the moves are very intuitive for me and I am pretty good at them. Even though I love Kenpo and find it easy I think Plyo is my favourite. I love the way it makes me sweat and how challenging it is.

    How are you guys doing?

What is your favourite P90X workout?

We do Kenpo tomorrow!  We have only done it once so far, but I really liked it.  It was fun but I was still all sweaty.

We just finished legs/shoulders and ab ripper.  We are almost finished with the second week and we haven't missed a day yet!

What do you guys have tomorrow?

Hi Ladies! I just wanted to let you know that you CAN complete P90X! I did the program with my fiance, and completed it sucessfully (with only a few hiccups here and there). The major thing it just NOT giving up. On those days you dont feel like it, do it anyway. After about the first month, things really ramp up and suddenly the thought of working out for an hour to an hour and a half doesn't sound so appealing - but keep going! I really toned up my back, arms and legs. I loved the program and Tony Horton really keeps you motivated.

I am training for a 10 K right now, then I intend to start Round 2 of P90X in May!

    GOOD LUCK!
