If you think they're pretty, I think that's all that should matter, and I bet many (if not most) of your guests won't even know the difference. I, for example, wouldn't know a manzanita from a hole in the ground.
I completely second Taye. If you love it, do it. There's nothing "tacky" about doing what you like and think is beautiful and is within your budget.
I agree with Taye. Nobody will notice and if they do who cares?! :) Not only are you saving money, you're also saving the environment (no pollution from shipping, etc.), and you're repurposing things that would just be thrown away anyway.
Personally I think it's cooler to use something from your parents & your In-Laws than buying something new, especially if it's something like branches. Why buy expensive branches when you can get them for free? I think it's a GREAT idea!
THANKS! i really needed to hear these opinions! i loved the idea what i first thought of it but then i saw all this stuff online about manzanitas and birch branches and thought i might be making myself look silly. thanks so much!!!
I agree that there is NOTHING tacky about working within your means! As long as you're happy with the end result of the project, there's no problem.
Plus, I think it's more inappropriate to put yourself into deep debt over tree branches or judge someone else's wedding choices than it is to paint found branches. I'm sure your project will be gorgeous, and I hope you'll share pics when you're done! :)
yes, definitely. paying $600 on manzanitas would probably kill me,lol. they do look the best but i'd rather keep my 600 and enjoy my honeymoon.
i'll definitely put up some pix when i have one competed! i can't wait!
It depends on what they look like...branches are branches for any guest...I doubt they'll ever stare and say: "hey, that's not manzanita"... ![]()
Do whatever you think looks pretty!
i think you should go with the branches from your parents house!! i wouldn't even paint them!! it will a beautiful natural look!! i have to agree with everyone that already said this.. if you like it and you think it is pretty then go for it!! i am sure it will be very nice...do some mock ups and post some pics!!
i finished my hanging votives las night! thanks so much for the positive feedback everybody. it's really helped! pics coming soon!
It's certainly not tacky! In fact, my florist is bringing branches from her own yard to save us money! Even the professionals do it! :)
This is a fantastic idea. There's no reason to overspend on branches. Everyone else is right-- no one will ever know the difference.
really? i wouldn't have thought a florist would do that, wow, thats really cool. i'm on the right track! i'm so glad i posted this.
I think that working within your budget is great and expressing yourself thru unique and creative ways is even greater!
I seriously doubt anybody would question the origin of the branches, aside from Preston Bailey or a world-renowned designer. Even then, THEY use creative elements from nature too and I think your eco-friendly approach is fabulous!
i guess i can think of it like that...like wild flowers...wild branches,lol

i love the branches as centerpieces idea.but, i cannot afford manzanita! with shipping, it isn't possible.
i've bought red vases and have went out to my parents land and gathered many branches from their woods. they have lots of trees down from the storms. i'm wanting to paint them red.
is it tacky not to use birch, manzanita, and all these branches that are always used? i know there are others that are used too but they are just too pricey.
also, i saw a photo of a very large floor manzanita in a square pot as decoration here on weddingbee. i loved that idea too!!! since i cannot afford these either, my fiance and i found some trees down also at his parents house...their branches resemble the manzanita.
i guess i just need to know if this is tacky too...to use tree from your backyard that aren't the branches used for these types of decoration.
i just need opinions, other than my own and my fiances.
