all the retals at the zoo are under a grand (except for 1 i think). Do you like the zoo….it would be fun, a picnic zoo wedding. I would enjoy it as long as the food tastes good…I think you can do anything.

prinprin:  Have you checked into holding the wedding at a restauarant? Many restaurants re willing to buyout a room at a reasonable price, especially if you are flexible and open to a lunch or Sunday wedding.

Check out the Toronto Chowhounds Board:

I found a photographer’s blog that suggests places for outdoor weddings/photography. Probably a few of these places also have indoor spaces you could look into!  The one I was originally thinking was the Centennial Park Conservatory in Etobicoke, it’s beautiful without needing any additional decorations. I think you have to contact the city to get information on using any of their facilities, so a phone call asking about the cheapest options could be worth your time. The telephone number is on the photographer’s blog as well.

I rented an entire historic chapel for under $900. I’m pretty sure you can find something near you for that price as well. We weren’t even being price conscious!

prinprin:  Too bad on the no chairs! I know there were plenty of benches in that conservatory when I went through though – so long as the ceremony isn’t too long, maybe that would be enough for your guests who can’t stand that long? Or warn everyone if they can’t stand for 15 minutes they should bring those super small and portable festival chairs? Lol.

Maybe if you called that number they would be able to clarify and/or give you some suggestions!

prinprin: The Gallery at the Gladstone Hotel is $500 to rent. This includes tables, chairs, furniture, linens and small wares.

I got this quote about a month ago, so you might want to get a hold of them to check the current rates.

You might also want to check Loft 404.

Good luck!

prinprin:  The Enoch Turner school house is one of the few venues I know that requires outside catering.  I have no idea what the rental fee is for it.

Do you know anyone who lives in a condo?  There are some specatcular party rooms in the condos around the city.  I used to work in facilities management I saw hundreds of party rooms, lots that would be very suitable for an intimate wedding.  Usually rental fees are minimal, you may need to pay security depending on the condo corporation, and you usually have to put down a deposit of $500 – 1k (which you get back when nothing is damaged.  We rarely had to retain a portion of a damage deposit.)

You can apply for a liquour license and you can bring in your own caterer.  They often have suitable chairs and tables there, so that is taken care of. I’d ask around your friends/family, especially if anyone lives down by the lake.  The party rooms in some of those condos have amazing views.

There is one hitch though.  Parking is almost always an issue.
