1) What should I wear when I drop off the application?
Something nice and conservative. Dress pants, button down shirt with a cardigan, nice shoes.

2) What should I wear if I get an interview
A suit.

3) What do I say if they ask me about my education?
Tell them the truth? I guess I don’t know why you’d need a foreign language class to finish a degree. Anyway. Tell them about the classes you’ve taken that pertain to the job duties.

4) What do employers actually look for when they ask “Tell me about yourself”
They don’t typically want personal information. I’ve heard people say that they do want personal info, but at my business school, it was drilled into us that you need to steer away from personal information during interviews. “Tell me about yourself” is typically the first question they ask, and what I was taught to do was to come up with a short summary of my education and previous work experience that’s relevant to the position.

5) What questions should I ask?
You can Google for good ones, but I always like to ask what a typical day in the position is like, what the person interviewing me likes best about working there, why the position is available, etc. Also, end the interview with:

  • If I am extended a job offer, how soon would you like me to start?
  • What can I tell you about my qualifications?
  • When can I expect to hear from you?
  • Are there any other questions I can answer for you?

6) Is there anything I should express to the interviewer?
That you want the job. Ask for the job. Part of that is in the “When can I expect to hear from you?” question above, but you need to make it clear that you want the job.
