Ok Bees...I have found the most amazing belt/sash (I dont know what you call them!) I have been fighting a battle over my dress and I think this might be the solution! Problem is, the store I went to is in a "higher-class" area and everything is severly over priced!  Leave it to me to fall in love with the $600 belt...that is right, $600!! Maybe I am cheap, but come on...it is a belt! Where can I find this, or something very similar to it, without the $600 price tag?? Side note, do you think this looks ok?? Keep in mind, the dress is not done up in the back. It is a corset and that belt end will go completely across the dress. I have been trying to find something to bling my dress up....there was a flower on the hip that everyone loves, everyone but me :( I have tried to love it, I just cant!!!

You can find belts like that one etsy. I think it would look better worn as a belt on your natural waist, but if you like the applique look then I would look for a beaded applique.

    ETA: Options and pictures

    $195

@asscherlover:  I wanted to wear it as a belt, but there is a seam from where I removed the dredful flower and if I wore it as a belt it would sit well beneath my natural waist and it just look strange....Thanks for the tip on Etsy, I am digging around in there!!

@FutureWife517:  I would search for beaded appliques then. There are a ton of them on etsy and I think it would be less expensive to purchase a beaded applique and have it added to your dress than to have a belt changed into an applique and added to your dress.

@asscherlover:  That is a good idea too!! I am worried that with an applique, they are a little less dimentional than a belt. The belt is meant to be a huge wow factor.....i dont know, the more I think about it the more i feel like I should just leave it how it came...it is just a dress, really....no need for me to be freaking out about it. The actual dreadful flower is pretty in everyone else's opinion....

I think if you get an applique that is larger it will function the same way the flower did (to provide a reason for the skirt to be gathered to that side) without being a big flower. I'm not really a fan of the flower. I think the trick is to get a beaded applique that is fairly large, about as large as the center diamond portion of the belt you tried on.

This was my original want...but with the way the material bunches then opens up it wont work...but this is why I was thinking of getting a belt but having it act more like an applique.

@FutureWife517:  Do you have a picture of you in your dress without the flower and without the belt? I'm having trouble picturing the blank canvas.

ETA: I really like the beading on the inspiration dress but I'm not sure you can do that much beading with the gathered ruffles. Thats why I was posting appliques that are (hopefully) similar in size to the flower but don't neccessarily extend as far as the belt. I think what throw me off with the belt is that it is more horizontal than vertical, which makes you look wider vs taller. I think thats why most appliques are generally at a 45 degree angle (makes you look slimmer and taller) or more vertical (makes you look taller).

They had that bottom one at the store I was at today, the contrast was too much..it almost looked dingy gray.....I have tried one very similar to the top one, and actually got it from glory house :) but it looked to randomly and obviously placed...I swear, I never thought I would be "That girl" who freaked out about a tiny detail, but my mind wont let it go.

Oh if its easier you can just take a picture of the dress. I'm more than willing to be your excuse to try it on again though lol. PS I've completely latched onto your dress project now. I think I have a solution but I'm waiting for the picture so I can make a photoshop mockup ;)

@asscherlover:  Thank you for you help!! I am sure all my family and friends are thinking that they wish I would just shut up already..LOL But I cannot stop until I find the perfect addition to this dress!!! Here is my dress...naked LOL ****I also agree that would be too much going on with the beading and the ruffles...had not thought about it until you just said so, but I do agree!

@kjo:  I really like the brooch on the last one, but I feel that it is too small..kinda like it got lost in the dress..someone told me it looked like an afterthought...and i do agree with them. it is pretty, but not wedding dress eye catching

@FutureWife517:  Ok so let me preface this with the fact that I like to go through my photos and delete ones that aren't related to my wedding periodically. So if you fall in love with one of these mockups please save the photos to your computer. I also guesstimated at size, so keep that in mind too. I really have only minimal references for size in each of the images I'm merging.

Applique 1: This is a v shaped applique which I figured could either accent the opening in the skirt where the ruffles are or the pleats in the bodice. The original photo has an orange background, the applique is not orange. I personally  dislike the large bead and would remove it. I erased the applique where it would wrap around the back of the dress or be hidden by the ruffles.

    $6.45

Applique 2: ($10.00 each) A regular applique which has been used multiple times to follow the lines of the dress. The background was pink which is why it appears pink in the mock up.

Applique 3: ($3.50) A larger, bolder v-shaped applique. It is also on a pink background in the original photo.

@asscherlover:  I dont really like the first one...I think you might be on to something with the second one, but I think without the one trailing down. Now, the third one...that is a so pretty!! I wonder how it would actually fit on the dress...but for that price, I would be willing to add it to my collection!!! I do have my heart set on rhinestones, but I bet I could find one in that shape!!!!**I never thought about using photoshop to try options out!

@FutureWife517:  With the third one, I figured you would sew it down on the satin. The ruffles would probably cover portions of it depending on the angle (I got lazy and didn't erase the parts that might be covered, here is a less lazy mockup).

@FutureWife517:  The only thing that might be tough with that trim (the thin rhinestone one) is covering the seam. It would probably distract people well though. Have you asked a seamstress if there is anything you can do besides covering the seam?

@asscherlover:  His step mom is an amazing tailor...she is actually making her own dress for the wedding....she loves the flower and has been vrey helpful to help me find something that I love. I really do like the shape of that last one you put on, and do really like that it is pearls.  The seam itself is about 3.5-4 inches and she said she could make it smaller. I think I might order that one that you put on it, just so I can see what it looks like! I will probably look for more V shaped appliques too, I think with going with pearls it will automatically give it depth. Maybe, I can find a crystal AND peal one!! That last one is def in my top choices!!!

@FutureWife517:  Is your dress white or ivory? The applique looks white on the pink background and ivory on the white background. I don't know that its a huge deal but I figured I would point it out. It should cover the seam well "It is lovely design spanning slightly over 5" across at its widest point and 5 1/2" from top to bottom. It is approx. 3 1/2" long in the center."

ETA: But you really can't beat $5.50 including shipping. Thats a lot better than $600 for a belt.

@asscherlover:  My dress is a very bright white, and I do like it but if it is ivory i dont think it will mesh well.....I am seriously over-complicating this....so frustrating, I wish I could just love it how it was made! I think I am over the belt, the more I look at it....it reminds me of wrestling championship belt LOL

@FutureWife517:  If it were me I would order it for peace of mind. Its sooooooooo cheap. If it works, great. If not you're out $5. I think it might be picking up the color from the room. The seller lists it as "off white" which really doesn't mean much. In some of the photos your dress looks like a soft white or off white, so it will probably be fine. I think that a slight amount of color will make it more noticeable on the dress anyways, the same way white lace over and ivory underlay makes the lace detail more visible.
