I think there are lots of cute ideas out there, but some just take up too much space post wedding. However one bee did a bench where people signed the bench. I thought that was cute. However, you would need to have space in your house or a yard to display it, and its not too cheap to buy (and then you need to seal it)
I am always a fan of anything where they give you words of wisdom because that is at least something you might revisit a few times over the years, unlike basic names. So just cards they slip into a photo album, or pin to a board (which you can later slip in a photo album)
I'm a graphic designer/creative type and this is what we did, hehe.
It was a sketchbook turned into a inking book. I called it a guest PRINTbook.
They left their thumbprint along with whoever else they came with and created a funny face and wrote a sweet message. It was so much fun to read when we got back from our honeymoon. <3

What about a cool ceramic plate or platter? Peeps sign and then you seal it and fire it.
The thumbprint thing but with a brightly colored peacock instead of the tree?
guest book calendar - sign your name on your birthday
dictionary circle words guest book
Hope that gives you some ideas!
Most craft stores sell a plain brown, with no print puzzle. You could have paint it and have people sign each piece. Put it back together and then frame mount it in your home. You can also have puzzles printed with your own pictures on them, maybe an engagement picture and do the same thing.
I went to a wedding where the bride had a polaroid for guest photos to go in the guest/scrapbook. It gave everyone an activity, and she's lending me the camera for mine. I'm going to have people put their pictures up on a string with a clothespin, then arrange them later.
Here's a post with a lot of great ideas:

I love the idea of the polaroid pictures!! So cute! and the print book is very cute too, keep them coming girls! show me your interesting guest book ideas :)
@Lilubird: That's super cute! What a unique and fun idea.
OP: I think I'm using an old hardcover "journal" that my aunt gave me a few years ago that has a really great quote on the front, and she also wrote a nice message inside that actually fits perfectly with getting married. I've never written in it and thought it would be perfect.
I also want to do an entertaining advice tree where guests can fill in the blanks and hang up what they wrote for other guests to have a laugh at:
(Wife's name), if (Husband) forgets _______________________, make sure you _________________.
(Husband), if (Wife) is upset about _____________________, don't forget to __________________.
We may not do it exactly like this since it plays into gender stereotypes, but it's kind of fun so we may, or at least something similar on tree branches (along with the book).
Put all of your escort pics up on a big board that is a picture of you guys underneath, and have them sign the space where their card was- so you can keep track of who it is, even if you cant read their writing!
I also like the thumbprints but I have many guests who dont want to get dirty!
Write special little notes, put them in vases of sand matching your wedding colrs (decoration too) melt wax on the top to seal it off (could be a cool part of your reception) and say you will break it on your 10, 25, etc wedding anniversary!
Polaroids of everyone (or each group of friends) either signed on the bottom or put into a book and the page left open for signatures and messages!
We are doing a framing guestbook. We will put an Epic in the middle of the frame. Underneath is a white posterboard. Anyway, our guests will be able to sign all around our picture!
Then after the wedding we will put a weddingday pic of us in it and hang it in the house. :) Its a unique way to do it.
I was just gonna get a normal book but my FI didnt like how the bokk will be put on a shelf and forgotten.

What should i do for the guestbook??
i know this is a very small detail in retrospect and ive thought about just going with the traditional sign a book etc.. but is there something totally unique, totally fun but not totally outrageously expensive!??
